A little heads up

Guys -- Fisher will take care of this, I'm almost sure. Don't worry about getting your coil wet. They sell these as waterproof coils, and they know what they have, in the Gold Bug Pro, I'm sure -- in terms of it being a great unit. No way, IMO, will they just say "sorry, your problem." They will make it right. I will use my coil in the water, without fear. Even if you buy it as an accessory coil and thus only 1-year warranty, I can't imagine someone having this problem in month 14, and Fisher saying "sorry -- not our problem." They'll take care of them, I feel confident -- assuming it IS a batch of flawed 11" coils...

Oh yeah, FT (Fisher) will take care of a leaking coil at no cost to you (providing it's under warranty).--Your only cost will be the shipping cost to get it to them.-----But the point is, if there is indeed a few (or a batch) of flawed (leaking) coils released--now is the time to "catch" them.----They market them as waterproof coils & that is what they need to be---FT realizes that! ------We should never be "abusing" the coils but we shouldn't have to "baby" them either.-------Tip---if you DO use the coil in water, don't end up tilting the coil high enough (after water use), to let water run down from inside of the shaft into the control housing or you WILL have a problem.------Bottom line----leaking coil-Fishers problem-----water in control box-YOUR problem!------------Del

wonder what the verdict will be it will be interesting to find out what they have to say? as to what the problem is?

I feel confident it will be handled correctly. I am impressed anytime I can make one call and get a technician on the line, as I did with Fisher. Felix was very helpful. I delayed a few days trying to find my receipt. Luckily, Richard at Backwoods had a copy and sent it to me.

I felt regret for sticking the coil in the water, since I only hit the beach every 6 months now. I thought I would give a heads up to those who, like myself would opt out of the water hunt if it meant possibly being without my Gold Bug. I would have still been hunting on that beach.

Thanks everyone for chiming in.

acasto --

I hope this does not keep you from using this machine on the beach/in the water. They sold you a "waterproof" coil; I would expect the machine to behave as such, and if it does not, you should obviously expect them to make it right. But, I would hope it doesn't make you think you have to "baby" your machine...

Got my coil and control head back from Fisher. It was on my doorstep when I got home at 3.
Had a one page note that says, and I quote, "The following corrective actions were taken: Replaced the 11" coil".

Needless to say, I am a happy camper. I have been in the customer service business for over 20 years. I recognize good service when I see it.
For those keeping track, I mailed out my coil and control head on May 12. It was picked up by Fisher on May 17, according to USPS tracking.
Shipping info on the return FedEx package says it left the Fisher facility on May 18Th at 1pm. That's a 24 hour warranty repair turnaround. Unbelievable for Any industry.

It took all of 8 days to get it repaired, but 7 of those days were transit time.

It also looks as thought they gave the control head a once over. The knobs look new, the ones I mailed to them were a little stained with brown dirt.
The display screen is different because mine had a Zagg screen protector on it. The one I received today has the plastic peel off protector on it.

I want to thank the folks at Fisher for an excellent customer repair experience. I will not hesitate to buy Fisher products in the future.:clapping:

Along those lines, anybody got an F75 ltd they might want to trade?

Nice report, acasto.

I recently dealt with Fisher repairs for a scratched screen. Had a VERY similar experience as you did. Not only did they replace the screen, for free, but they also went over the rest of the machine and while doing so, replaced the coil connector, the entire front faceplate, and all in a total of about 10 days (including transit time).

VERY impressive, to me.
