a "how to" in getting yourself and everyone else banned from your local park(s)

As far as gun comparisons go, I'm a hunter and love my guns...But there is a proper place for those guns where seeing me holding one won't draw gasps and unwanted attention. Same deal with shovels. Keep it on private land. You may feel you have the right to use whatever you want to dig but try arguing those rights with a cop or ranger when he kicks you out of a place for good. We can't win any public relation battles or get laws changed. We just don't have enough people, money, or power in metal detecting to do that. So the best way to avoid bans is to keep a low profile and avoid upsetting people. I even leave a park or a beach if too many people start showing up and I can't stay well away from them. With numbers comes increasing chances that some nosey person will call the authorities, complain, and then it's lights out.

If you don't think there are certain "rules" of etiquette that we should try to live by to avoid unwanted attention then try picking your nose in public and see what kind of attention that gets. :biggrin:
