A few cents here and there:

We use the Lortone 3A Cliff, but any quality tumbler will work. Do not tumble copper with the silver colored coins or they will have a copper tone on all of the coins. I tumble about 2/3 full of coins and use a handful of pool filter sand, a couple DROPS of detergent and fill to cover the coins with vinegar. For silver colored clad I tumble for 12 hours and they come out very clean but dull. I then spray them lightly with vegetable oil to bring the new look back and then I roll them around in the towel pictured to cover all of the coins with oil. Pennies only need to tumble for about an hour to get clean.

Hi Cliff,

Nice hearing from you. You'll find one of those half dollars one of these days. The tumbler is a good investment also. You take care and HH, Nancy

I'm watching Ebay right now; not sure if I should try for a used one; or pay the extra bucks for the warranty....

But, it sure is good getting back out with the MXT...Missed it there for a while...

Good hunting/Cliff

I have heard good reports about the tumbler at Harbor Freight Stores if you have one nearby Cliff. I think 30-35 dollars, and if you can get a used Lortone for a good price, I wouldn't worry about the warranty, they are built pretty tough.

Just picked up a dual tumbler from Harbor Freight, they had several different styles to choose from and you can get a cheap warranty on them if you want. Haven't used it yet as I'm still building coins totals (too dry to dig latley.)

Just purchased a used Lortone 3A. Paid 30.00 for it, it came in the other day, and it appears to be all there. But, I do have one question. After running for a period of time (short time at that) the tumbler stops tumbling, but the rollers were still rolling. Instructions says that a possible cause is a smooth surface on the tumbler, and to sand it down a bit. That could be the problem, or maybe I just got took on the tumbler. Have you run into this problem at all?

Thanks/Cliff

Hi Cliff,

I sent you a PM. Maybe someone else can answer your question before Larry gets home. He's the one that runs the machine.

HH,
Nancy

Pretty common problem Cliff when the rollers and/or barrel gets slick. I clean them good with a solvent. (whatever you have) When I am cleaning an extra large load, I prop up the front of the unit about an inch to shift more weight to the rear roller which is the driven roller.

Now Frank, "OLD AGE"? WHAT??? Oops, I didn't mean to yell, but at my age....... Just kidding.

Truthfully, I can't see replacing my MXT with the PRO. The new features aren't a big deal to me since it's only programed with a few tone IDs and also the ground balancing wouldn't be a "key" factor in our type of soil. Don't' get me wrong, if someone wanted to give me one, I would gladly use it. ;) Yes, my MXT is quite old, but it's still running with the big boys and I don't think I'm missing out on any finds. I can clean a yard up just as easy as any big boy toy!

So until I feel I'm missing targets and not getting the depth I should be, I'll be walking around with my dinosaur. :detecting: I think I have a few followers also. Right guy and gals?

HH,
Nancy
Right with you Nancy...MXT good !!

You nailed it; I'm keeping the non driven roller up about an inch, and the tumbler has stopped rolling since. Thanks for the tip; and I'll show you the first batch of dollar coins that came out.

Thanks again/Cliff

"...first batch of dollar coins " Forget about the picture Cliff, show me where you're hunting. JK Good luck.

I guess that did come out sounding better than it is.... In the past 3 years found approximately 15 (one) dollar coins (newer variety) here and about. Not getting rich, but would rather dig once for the dollar than four times for the quarter to get to that elusive dollar coin.

Thanks; still tumbling/Cliff

After getting everything set up IAW local guidance (Larry and Nancy) following are the results...Rather pleased myself!! The Lortone 3A tumbler sure did the trick.

Thanks all/Cliff

Nice going Cliff. They look great. Now if I could find a treasure spot like that. Thanks for posting the pictures. HH, Nancy
