A few cents here and there:

Here's a picture of our clad that we've found :twodetecting: this year. Larry thought it was time to do some money laundering since the clad bucket was overflowing. He uses a rock tumbler along with white vinegar and a bit of sand to clean the silver colored coins. The cents are cleaned separately with white vinegar. If you clean them together, your quarter, dimes and nickels will have a copper tone to them. Well, we had 30.5 pounds of clad for a total of $330.64. That's not counting the zinc cents that we threw away.

We usually do something with our "found" money and this year we're getting new furniture for the deck. :clapping: Thanks for looking and I hope your clad is adding up also! HH, Nancy

I find a little aquarium rock (picked up at any pet store, wal mart, etc. and a bag lasts a l-o-n-g time), water and a shot of dish soap works very well. Keep pennies and clad seperate. I put the coins in after work and after work the next day there in good shape. Nice hual by the way!

Now that photo gives a new meaning to the phrase "POCKET CHANGE !":thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: CCH

Thats a nice amount of clad , and the patio furniture will be enjoyable for a long time . Everytime you sit down to relax you can think about all the hard work you put in detecting to get the new furniture. Congrats

Boy did I get a good laugh. "POCKET CHANGE". That's cute. Thanks and HH, Nancy

Thanks Harold and it does give a new meaning to appreciation. It's something that we both can enjoy. We use to go on "freebie" mini vacations with our found money, but now since we have the General and camper, we do that instead.

That is a good haul, about twice as much as I have found this year. I put gas it the truck with mine.

I've saved my quarters for about five years now and turned them in last week and ended up with over $800.00.. That was exciting! I also have over four thousand pennies, about eighty of them are old from 1910 and up that I have to seperate before I turn them in to the bank.. Lots of fun..

Nancy,

I am in awe! Way to go! It looks as though you have some older coins in the mix. Did you remove all the silver??

Pete

Thanks Pete! It's nice to hear from you again.

Hopefully there wasn't any older coins in there. We keep those separate from the clad usually right after we find them. Even the wheat cents are kept separate.

Hope you're doing good and can get out in this heat to do a little detecting.

HH,
Nancy

cash them in about early December and use it for Christmas Shopping Change. I'd bet you're usually not able to hunt much by early December there, but here in NW Oregon we can usually hunt every month of the year. Some get a bit wet, and lately it's been quite dry, but the opportunities are still there.

Let's hope you two can keep adding to your annual take. :twodetecting:

Monte

Thanks Monte, Yes, we don't get out much come December. Haven't been out much this summer either. It's been too HOT. I'm glad you can get out every once in a while. There was a year that we were able to hunt Dec. 27 and I found a beautiful gold ring with a tanzanite heart stone and two diamonds. Ironically, it was our anniversary also. No, Larry didn't plant it.

Wow nice pile of coins!! When I have clad days I just tell myself "Clad buys equipment" Detecting getaways is an awesome way to use that clad.

Wow, Nancy, what a haul. Question--why would you not want to upgrade to the 'Pro' rather than stay with a 'dinosaur' of White's technology? I personally have several 'dinosaurs' I prefer because of their simplicity. an MXT being one of them. Old age does that to you.

Frank L/TX

Now Frank, "OLD AGE"? WHAT??? Oops, I didn't mean to yell, but at my age....... Just kidding.

Truthfully, I can't see replacing my MXT with the PRO. The new features aren't a big deal to me since it's only programed with a few tone IDs and also the ground balancing wouldn't be a "key" factor in our type of soil. Don't' get me wrong, if someone wanted to give me one, I would gladly use it. ;) Yes, my MXT is quite old, but it's still running with the big boys and I don't think I'm missing out on any finds. I can clean a yard up just as easy as any big boy toy!

So until I feel I'm missing targets and not getting the depth I should be, I'll be walking around with my dinosaur. :detecting: I think I have a few followers also. Right guy and gals?

HH,
Nancy

Great reply, Nancy-I was referring (old age) to me- It's refreshing to hear that a young whippersnapper like yourself has used the same machine for so long-gotta be doing something right. My soil is black gumbo (when wet) or otherwise rock hard clay (like now, for instance)-a jack hammer is sorely pressed. Anyway, keep on keeping on as will I with my MXT.

That is a nice haul, and I like how they are coming up shinny and clean.....So once again I'm asking for your input as you and Larry didn't lead me wrong with the MXT, coin, or headphones, so what sort of rock tumbler is Larry using? I'm going to have to go out and get me one of those!!!

And by looking over your pile I note at least four if not five half's in there...I'm still looking for my first 50 cent piece.... Wish me luck, you never do know what your getting with a VDI over 85.

Thanks again for the pic..

/Cliff
