A dream come true. 3 generations huntin' together...PRICELESS pics...and BIG silver:clapping:

Father's day was a dream come true for me. My baby...well 24 year old baby now:rolleyes:...me...and my dad... got to do a little huntin' together.

It was the first time the three of us have hunted together in over 13 years.

My daughter hunted with me until about 1997...but then basketball took over.

In fact...remember the good old days when silver and wheaties were somewhat plentiful at 4" to 5"????... as you can see from Chrissy's coins which she still has to this day in the holders she put them in 13 years ago.

I got divorced in 1986 and at the time my daughter was 1 1/2 years old. I got custody and raised her on my own...which is something I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

From the time she could walk...I took her to the ymca with me while I lifted weights. She would set and color or draw until I got done...then we played basketball together.
She really enjoyed it...so I practiced with her 7 days a week.

It paid off for her in 1999 when she won the national 3 point shooting contest for 7th grade girls.

It paid off a little further AND was easier on my wallet when she got a college scholarship to play basketball in the Rockford area.

Anyway...we figured since Dad's health is getting so bad...that we would all hunt together again in case he gets to where he simply can't do it anymore.

He didn't last long because his elbow has really been bothering him.... but it was a precious time which I will cherish forever.

We got a big rain beforehand but it didn't stop us at all...and it was beautiful and sunny when it was done.

We hunted a spot where they were tearing up some old sidewalk and it was very muddy.

It was also very hot...mid 90's...and very humid...so we hunted for only an hour or so. Dad actually only lasted about 30 minutes...but I would not have allowed him to hunt longer anyway...just too hot for someone in his condition.

My daughter and I found absolutely NOTHING under the sidewalk...BUT right along the edge where it came out I got a very sweet hit. :clapping:

It was a very high "warble" from back inside the vertical edge of the old sidewalk dirt. I dug about 6" back into the edge of the mud with my hands...and pulled out a big clump of sidewalk "sand/mud muck". I started to rub the muck away until I saw the big rim:surprised:...then carefully rubbed a little more to see the date of 1938...so I knew it was a Walker.:super: It's been a loooong while since I have found one of these. I wanted to be very careful because as you can see...there's a little gritty crap and some sand mixed in the mud from where the concrete line was.

Well after rinsing...here ya go...BIG silver...1938D Walking Liberty half.:yikes:

Sweet indeed...but ABSOLUTELY nothing in comparison to having 3 generations of us hunting together one more time.

The pic of me...my daughter...and my dad...with our detectors means more to me than a gazillion Walking Liberty Halves. :please:

Thanks for sharing this with me.

Thats wonderful Bryce! Theres no amount of silver or gold that could be worth more than the 3 of you out together. Your a great father, I'm sure your daughter loves you dearly. Great job on the Walker1

PS - I haven't told this to anyone yet, so you're the first. Looks like I'm going to try and swing my detector for a little this coming Tues. morning. First time since June '09. :detecting:

Bryce,

Great story, glad you had a special Fathers Day! I wish I could of gotten my boys into metal detecting when they were younger. They show no interest to this day. So I hunt by myself or the guys from the detector club on occasion. My three sons ages are 20 (21 next month), 17 and 12; they have their own interests and I respect that. Here in NM the temps. are hovering around 97 to 100, but, with 10 to 15% humidity. I can hunt for about 4 to 5 hrs. tops, but, you gotta drink plenty of water, etc. to keep on going.

Anyway, I got a question for you. Do you still have your XL Pro or did you get rid of it? I use to follow the Analog forum from a couple of years ago to present (and still do) when you had a bunch of questions to 'Dugger' concerning your XL Pro. If you still have it, is it put in the back of the closet? Does your Minelab detectors just out do the XL Pro? . . .Just curious? I used mine on Sat. 19th and was digging common clad at depths of 5 to 6 inches. I am still impressed with my XL Pro which is no slouch. I have a Whites Spectra V3 in my arsenal which I've been using for about a year and half and I must say that I'm really impressed in the depth in which I was pulling coins out of the ground. There is a learning curve though, but if you are computer literate, then there is no problem in programing custom settings, etc.

Prior to the purchase of the V3, I almost bought a SE Pro, but changed my mind at the last minute. My friend has and still uses his Explorer II and swears by it. He is mostly a relic hunter. . . Still pondering the purchase of one though. . . gotta wait until this economy makes an about face before I do it. What do you think about the SE Pro??? Your thoughts.

Thanks for your time,

TC-NM

Great post Bryce !! I did a little hunting with my dad back in the late 70's but he never really got into it. We both had Compass machines (no descriminator).
For the past 10 years or so before he passed away he used to look foreward to sharing what I had found.
I got away from detecting when the kids were born (now ages 25 & 21) so they never developed an interest but now always ask to hear the stories of what I'm
finding.
Put that day you had in a bottle and keep it close!

Bryce,

That one moves to the top of my all-time favorite Bryce posts! [10 for 14 from behind the arc, sheesh!!!] My 11 year old girl has been playing basketball for a couple of seasons now and hit her 1st 'trey' in a recent game. Great family get together and the Walker ain't bad either! :super: - Jim

I know you dont care what its worth though and that is what makes you the person you are.
You are all about family and friendship. This is my favorite post out of them all mate.
Congratulations. you have a beautiful daughter and a wonderful pop and a good buddy in Herkules.
Put that first picture in a frame and covet it.

You know Bryce.... I am only 22 years old  LOL I am just kidding man!!!!!!! The story is awesome.. The pics are GREAT.. I wish I could get my Dad out there and hunt with me. He likes to see my finds, but has no interest in doing it himself.. I guess you could look at it as a plus.. There will be more for me to find  I hope you get out and dig a jar of silver soon brother!

Bryce I absolutely loved this post. The walking liberty key date is a superb find but as you stated...nothing in comparison to the memories your gettogether generated. You done good by raising your daughter and it shows on all 3 of your faces in the first picture. thanks for what you do here.

Bryce, thanks for sharing. Money cannot buy what you have there. Thanks for sharing the story and pictures.

Sounds like a Great Day with the family Bryce :detecting:

I haven't been detecting in quite awhile, just been to hot for digging in this Alabama red clay.

Shop work has been slow too, the economy purely sucks & can't blame folks for not spending what little money they have on motorcycles.

So ... I'm just taking it easy, been bass fishing with my grown kids every chance we can get together .... have caught some good one's too :bouncy:

Just had to bury my father in-law last week, so that's alway's a good reminder of just how little time we have with our family members.

Later ...... Mike
