A detecting tip I keep forgetting to lay on the newbies and not so newbies that can often fill your pocket with coins....

How many of you hunt the perimeter around the kiddee merry go rounds, especially the ones surrounded by grass, and employ the "creep & sweep" method or some other slow and precise method? If you ain't you could be leaving a pile like this behind totalling $4.30 including a SAC dollar. And I was still finding coins when I had to leave. Don't ask me why or how coins get out that far but I was picking up coins twelve feet out from the merry go round. Last summer around one of these I picked up an eight quarter spill. Bear this in mind the next time you come across one and try your luck instead of making a half arsed pass at it..

You are so right on that one Bill. Because our kiddy playgrounds are regularly hunted by others, I always search the whole grass perimeter around playgrounds, merry go-round or not, and have always found a lot of coins there.

Nice hunt!:detecting:Good clad haul!:clapping:Tot lots are some of my favorite hunting grounds.:thumbup:Thanks for sharing!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

Thanks Uncle Willy
And not just for the tips
You and John E are inspiring
"Its too hot/cold/rainey etc"
But you're out dragging heavy wooden platforms
John's out snow or whatever
So thanks to both of you for that boot in the butt to get me moving

Next time you drive by a school or playground when there are children out. Look at where they throw their jackets and backpacks. I think you will find your answer as to why there are so many coins on the perimeters.

Yeah my dear bud not many beeper swingers hunt that area thoroughly, they just make a few hot passes and move on.

Yeah the merry go rounds in the bark chips don't produce as well as the ones surrounded by grass This one sat off to the side away from the general bark chip area. Going to put this one on my list to return to often. There's another one in this same park/school that is in another bark chip playground surrounded by chips and it's a poor producer.

Your right Bill! Last year I had a huge haul of clad. It was the grass area between the tot lot and the sidewalk. The area was about 6ft x 20 ft. Lots of quarters for some reason? I just don't think others even hunted this area.

Thank you for the tip UW! We appreciate you...

Yeah a lot of swingers miss some prime areas. I wrote an article years ago just on that subject " Hunting Those Not So Obvious Areas". I hunted a school one time all over and didn't find much then I spied this two foot wide strip of grass that ran between a sidewalk and the driveway leading from the school to the street. I mentally bet myself that no one had hunted it and it was loaded including two Walkig Liberty Halves.

Few years back when I was field testing Troy Galloway's new detector I was hunting this big football/soccer field and it wasn't coughing up much. Then I looked down at one end on the other side of the track between the field and the street where all the sports equipment was stored and I bet myself it hadn't been hit. I pulled over seven bucks out of that spot. The field had been hunted to death but no one had the presence of mind to hunt this unpopular, unproductive looking spot.

You are the man Bill! Now I just need to get out there! Been cooling off a little with all the rain. Great info!

Thanks for all the great tips, Bill. What seems obvious to someone with lots of experience is new to us newbies. I thank you and the other experts for trying to help us newbies out.

You must be getting all the rain we had for weeks on end. Now it's in the nineties but supposed to get back to normal soon. Hope ya get out soon.
