A Buff nickel in a weird location.

jkline and I hit the AdLawn again the morning. After all Jeff cant have this old man get too far ahead of him!! We decided to grid search the remaining main chunk of real estate so off we went.
Jeff struck first with a 1920 wheatie and again a few minutes later with a 40s Merc. We kept to our paces and he out dug the clad on me, this time. I managed to pull a ‘48S wheat up from a solid 8”+ and enough clad to break a buck. At one point I dug up copper looking bracelet with a button like object attached to the top of the band.
Put everything in my cleaning dish and let soak and cleaned it all up a couple hours later. Noticed there was some type of letters on the bottom of the button but the toothbrush just not stiff enough to clean the surface. So, I switched to the brass brush and lightly started brushing. Under the loupe I can make out “cents” and a leg. 😳
Cleaned it up as best I could and sure enough the button is a Buffalo nickel with the Buffalo facing up or outward. Basically unable to dismantle it to check face for a date. So, I managed a second older coin in a weird way!

I dont even remember what it rang up as either, 4” deep!!

That's getting it the hard way! Nice find any way you look at it.

That coin must be precious. Good job :clapping:

A lot closer look at the bracelet portion reveals its leather! Not sure the base metal under it but that leather was hard as a rock. Going to take some leather treatment and see if we can bring her back some. Pics to follow if it works…..

Ok, what is a Tatonka? The Administration Building Lawn is the center of the University and at one time was listed as one of the prettiest campus lawns in the US. We have been recovering some pretty nice low denomination coins along with bits and pieces of local and regional history. My guesstimate as to the total lawn size is 5 or slightly more acres.

Got it!!! Native American for buffalo!!!

That's a really nice lawn area you have there Ron. It will be a "go to" spot for a long time when you want to hunt for the deep targets. The Buffalo bracelet is a nice find.

Sweet find
