A 1st. for me

I've been so tangled up in vines and undergrowth that I could hardly move.

I hear that...been out in the woods before and worked into some crazy spots. I hate the stickers the most though. I've found myself entwined in stickers, thinking "Is a silver dime or a bullet worth THIS???"

Hey Gravedigger this is Coastwise son. I just thought I'd comment on the out of place shells. Sometimes we forget the sea has not always been where it is today. A 100 or even 1,000 years ago the level of the oceans has probably changed a few feet. Could you imagine a steady 10-12 ft change in the oceans levels.....

Boy ,I can tell you guys never hunted land! The shells are from peoples trash . You know the stuff they buried before they had trash cans.

Jim, I agree with THAT one. In fact, I would be quite sure of it. I have hunted many an old house or farm where shells had been brought in, usually as "unerfill" for the driveway to solidify it. And it was a real bear to try to dig signals in...impossible, in fact. This one place had clam and oyster shells under the dirt in the driveway that must have been 4 inches thick.

Hey, Mike, once I got so tangled up I couln't move and as I looked down to start working my way out of the mess a snake crawled between my feet. It wasn't venomous but who's thinking when you first see it? If it had been a rattler and had bitten me I would probably have died before I could have gotten out of that tangled mess. So, you're right, sometimes you ask yourself is it worth it. And the answer is no until you find that rare backmarked confederate button or similar item. We sure do some crazy things for fun. Have a good one.

Inland digging can be tough work but sometimes we get lucky and find some really old and cool stuff. Either way it's fun to get out and get it done.
