40Mins. i was over this relic deal...........maybe in a field of something, but it was too junkie for me. Low tide tim and i left sharkhunter and tony swinging at this hot goose, hoping they have the patience to stick it out. they are relic kinda guys anyway.................

we hit the road around speeds of 70mph to reach the sea

sand.............oh can i relate to that............i do like it.

while digging at the house site, i came across these small scallop shells mixed in the dirt

how in the heck did they get there??? - 30miles from the sea

I get worn out quick. Can hunt the surf lane with abandon for 8 hours, but dry land and I'm pooped in 1 hour! A pirates life for me!

GH, I think your adrenaline causes that. You expect to find more and better finds in the surf so you are able to keep going but on the sand your expectations are lower so you get tired more quickly. Actually, for most people, it's the other way around, especially if you have rough surf. I suggest if you're not finding it in the surf, that you try the sand. It really does move around. I agree that the weight of the detector is less demanding in the water but constantly fighting the wave action is far more tiring to me, unless I'm finding good stuff. Don't sell the sand short. There are some real treasures to be found there. BTW, what is the surf like down there on the gulf? It can get kind of pounding here and the rip currents are pretty commone. Seems it's always a chore just to stay on balance. Hope the rest of your weekend is great and you make some great finds.

I am thankfull you came to your senses, now I won't have to worry about a lot of trash when I come down there to go swimming this summer! Don't be leavin any of them gold rings in there for me to step on either.
He said "dry Land", not "dry sand". He was talking LAND hunting compared to BEACH hunting.
Ahh, my mistake. I guess it is harder digging than at the beach. Been awhile since I dug any high ground.

Remember you're at a house site. People have been eating seafood for 1000's of years. Either that or they were brought home from the beach. Welcome to the world of digg'n in someone's trash! I'm positive that at one time the people living there ate them!

It's very common to find unusual things at house sites.

Forget shovels! BAD... BAD... idea!

Getting on your knees is the best way to dig. This is a Military issued hand pick. The pick side has been sawed off. This is not cast because those diggers break very easy. This one is forged steel. It's very hard and durable! Getting your hands on one of these is difficult to say the least.

Yeah, digging at the beach is heaven compared to some of the land sites we hit. Though out in the woods or in a moist field isn't too bad. But scooping sand is hard to beat for ease of recovery.

Yeah, I used to do only relic hunting and digging in plowed fields wasn't bad but some other areas could be a real struggle. I've been so tangled up in vines and undergrowth that I could hardly move. But going into those kinds of areas can be very rewarding. Most people won't hunt them. Boy, the things we do for fun. Have a good one.
