I would be really excited to find a shield nickel.
Keep on surprising us with your great finds!
That is like me and Buffalo nickels. I had never found one until March and now I have at least a dozen.
Now if I can do that with shield nickels!! (I do live in an area with a lot of revolutionary history, York county, SC) I will be hunting near the Battle of Hucks defeat site (on some land next door) this winter, so hopefully I can find something really old.
I watched Andy Sabisch dig a capped bust half dime at a site I took him to right before I got my ETrac. It was the site of Hills Iron Works, which was burned by the British in 1782. No other silver coin has come from there. I found my one and only Indian head there (1884) just after I got my ETrac.
I also took Andy to another site and he pulled an 1840 O seated dime to my clad stuff. I was still learning my ETRac then.
Our area has been pounded pretty hard, I just have to work at getting permission to some of these older sites that are virgin.
