9" coil or another machine?

GazinUK

Well-known member
Bought my D2 with the 11" coil, I have plenty of clean land which was the reason I chose that option. Now seeing as XP are reluctant to release an elliptical coil, am toying with the idea of a 9" coil, or for the same price another used machine with an elliptical coil. Have run the 11" over some of my trash laden sites with some fair results, but you know how it is, am I missing things?

What “other machine” would that be? You’d be buying it specifically for the SIZE of the elliptical coil?

Fast recovery and probably variable frequency though not essential, so yes I'd be buying it for the option of running a smaller coil.

Get the 9” coil . I have both the 11” coil and the 9” coil . They both have their place . I use the 9” in the trashy parks and it works great . 11” for open , cleaner areas . The Deus 11 is a fast , adjustable machine that will handle most situations and then some . I own most of the top end machines and in my opinion they all work about the same giving a few more or less bells and whistles . This is all my opinion and experience and the areas that I hunt . HH

Which coil do have?
Tony
I’ve got the 9” for almost all of my hunting Tony, I also have the 11x13” but find it to be a bit big and heavy for my uses. I’m wondering WHAT elliptical coil on a single freq machine might be better than the 9” on the D2, if that’s what’s being inquired about. Unless it’s for hunting in VERY tight spots I haven’t seen any testing which puts a single freq elliptical in front of the D2 9” coil, which is the direction I would go if I were the OP…

Actually you've bought something up there, as I said the sites are very open so guess I wouldn't be putting the coil into confined spaces.

I can’t answer that question about elliptical coil on a single freq because I don’t use those. I was only curious about what size coil you use. Sorry to hijack this thread.

Just my two cents get a 9” coil and a NM legend with the 6” coil, its a multi frequency detector and the 6” coil on it is hot, for those super trashy areas
Although going back to a heavier detector feels like a ton of bricks lol

If you can afford it I'd buy a 900 and a 5X10 Coiltek coil for it. Very good set up and a 6" coil comes with the 900.

Thats just it, if you can afford it lol.
Nothing wrong with either and both will do 98% the same thing
900 with the 6” is $1100 plus $250 for the 5x10 coiltek= $1350
NM legend pro pack with 6” coil = $695
You can get the NM legend pro pack plus a 9” xp deus2 coil for total $1000.
But if you have more money than you know what to do with, buy them all for $2350 lol

Well to be honest, I was looking at the Nokta Simplex/Legend range, but they seem to be messing around at the minute.

For the money the legend has so much more than the simplex especially if you are using a multi frequency detector already. It can be used as both multi or single frequency.
Confused on your comment about
“Seem to be messing around at the minute “ though???

Get a DEUS with the 9.5x5 coil cheaper and I find just as much if not more than the 800 900 and The Legend
Maybe just me but isn’t going from the D2 to D1 like having a computer running windows 10 and buying another one that runs windows 98 just to have a slightly smaller screen

Messing around as in "Ultra" version coming onto the market

Why do you need an elliptical? Is the area you are searching around have tight places around shrubs and such or stubble?

The ORX would be a cool option with the elliptical coil and not as much as a deus 1st gen model.

It is a very fine little unit and works great.

I prefer the 9" see Richard at backwoods he will give you a good deal
