$ 750.00 What machine???

Patience Desmond don't be in a hurry,
Wait till you hear good reviews, I am waiting myself to see if there is improvement from a certain brand

But it takes a little while to get used to all the different sounds and meter reading that you will get. It has 2 modes STD which is the same as the Ace 350......an excellent park machine......and a Pro mode which discriminates the iron and mineralization. This is a single frequency machine which accounts for the lower price. The Excal is a multifrequency machine and has far more circuitry in it. I really don't think it is fair to try and compare the 2 machines because they each operate differently. Both are very good and find the targets but their mode of operation is different to get the same result. I have had my Excal for 10 years and it still is in good condition, the AT Pro.......I don't have a clue on how long it will last in good condition.

Hi Des,

You are asking a tough question, everyone has an opinion but the bottom line is get what works for you and the only way to know that is to try some units out. I suspect you will not be happy with anything except the Excal but you can buy a good used AT and try it out for the summer and sell it for what you paid for it, or close to it anyway in the early fall. I think the AT is a good general purpose detector and for occasional fresh water hunting, it would be great, but if I were to take water hunting seriously, I would have to have the Excal.

Thanks so much Larry. Great to hear from you. Still miss coin hunting. Have to get two machines eventually. How has hunting been? Des

I tried the Tesoro Tiger Shark last year and was pretty impressed with it and I think I will give the AT a try this year for the limited fresh water hunting I do. I have a three day hunt and V3i training seminar coming up in two weeks and a couple of guys are driving here from Maine, I can ask them to stop and pick you up.......:happy:

I'll send you a PM Des.

Sounds good. Don't forget I had my land machine stolen last year, so no land detecting for me until I hit it rich. Des

So sorry Des, I forgot about the theft. Maybe the AT would be a good investment for you, surf and turf? Why am I hungry for steak and lobster?

Ive found that all vlf detectors will mask targets in disc mode. Some reset faster which helps, also DD coils help.
The Excal/Sov will pick up targets when in a null and also they null on any target that is disced out, its not something they only do over iron. Sov/Excal recovery time between targets is slow, the AT Pros is faster which helps it.
