6X8 SEF -vs- Sunray X-5. Is there enough difference to justify both?

I found 44 rings last year using the Sunray 5.5" coil. It has great separation & great depth. I hunt trashy parks for jewelry. I recently bought the 6" Excelerator as well. I highly recommend them. I love hunting with these small coils. They are easy to swing, easy to pinpoint with and Ihave no problem covering ground. I'm sure I miss targets due to coverage, but I believe I make up for it by finding treasure amongst the trash that others miss.

I did test with minelab 8 and sef6x9 and sold them-in usual situation no point using them--its my believe. I use just 1050 and my test showed this coil one of the best. sorry if i dont like Picolo coils, but I did very informative tests with nails and rusted iron and found what I say. Stasys

I also have the minelab 8" coil & pro-coil only thus far... the little 8 does pretty well amongst trash and goes about as deep as the pro-coil with only marginally better seperation. Its good as a backup coil but it rarely sees any action as I feel I'm not missing much with the pro...

Gonna give the minelab 8" a swing at the beach this weekend to see its performance there, but chances are it will just remain a decent backup coil for the pro. IF I get a new coil, it will be a 12x15 sef or WOT but for now the pro does the trick for me.

You could always have both for now, test them out & get rid of one later but I wouldn't sell till I tried both side by side...

Either way, good luck & HH

Dean

Yeah, you're probably right Stasys... I wonder... what if I snip the coil wire of the 8" closest to the coil and construct one of my own from pvc and copper wire....

Anyone ever tried making their own coils this way??? Maybe I'll goodle it LOL

McDean I am near making my coils, now just make lighter and better design. allot people do them for sovereign and other detectors, but this you can found on other forum Geotech. its possible to make better coil, but its long way and you will not gain very much. original minelab coils is best, main point is learn to use them. Why don't you just duct tape the probe of your Sun Ray to your lower shaft? You should be able to get right up under a fence line with it. That is the ultimate trash:)....NGE
