6T better than MXT

Is it true that the 6T is better in all detecting ? some people are saying

I haven't had my hands on one yet, but I sincerely doubt it. It doesn't have the three modes, nor does it have the coil selection. Would like to try one just the same as it sounds like a very capable detector at any rate. My two bits.

Why are all you guys try and find a detector that will out do the MXT, its like you are afraid the MXT is the best detector out there. In my book there is no detector better then the MXT, but I am not getting on here bashing any detector that others use. Just buy what you want use it and be happy with it, dont try to compare it to our choice, most people on this forum will tell you the MXT is # 1. MXT, M6 or any other detector that Whites makes are great detectors for what they are designed for. Every day it seems like someone is trying to compare another detector or another brand name detector to the MXT, its like a young fast gun is trying to take out the old fast gun. There maybe detectors out there that are as good but you can't beat the MXT on this forum we all love our choice in what we bought. I just want you guys to show a little respect at the top of this page it says; WHITES MXT USER FORUM Sorry about the soap box speech.....Just my opinion..............::shrug:

Sorry about that Larry, I just got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning..........:rage:...:....

It is very true ... that the new Prizm 6T is going to appeal to some hobbyist more than the MXT. It is quite true that the 6T has some appealing features not available on the MXT (such as notch discrimination, 9-tone audio ID, back-light, and all controls at-the-ready for adjustment with the operating hand), but that doesn't mean that it's going to be better than an MXT.

I like the Prizm 6T, owning one and using it. The same is true for the Matrix M6 (I've owned two) and the MXT (of which I have owned 4). But I haven't heard anyone say the 6T would necessarily "out-perform" the MXT, although I have read where some prefer the 6T to the MXT for the types of detecting they generally engage in. Like like the balance and feel better, the adjustability (controls), and the notching ability and 9-tone audio ID.

The MXT, M6 and 6t all share a great fast-acting Auto-Trac circuit to establish and maintain the Ground Balance, and they are slow-motion, quick-response types in performance, but it basically ends there.

The M6 is a single mode detector, in reality. You have motion-based Discriminate mode. It dose provide the option of hearing a 7-tone audio, but that's not really a different 'MODE', just a difference in information conveyed. It's still just a motion-based Discrimination. It does have a Pinpoint function w/VCO audio.

The MXT and ^t are similar in that they are both two-mode designs. That's right, just two modes.

The MXT can be operated in an All Metal 'Prospecting' mode, or in a motion-based Discriminate mode. Take you pick.

The operator does have the option of selecting the type of information conveyed in the motion Discriminate mode by selecting Coin & Jewelry or Relic. They both function from the variable Discriminate setting, and the only difference in the information conveyed. In Coin & Jewelry you have a single audio tone and typical 'coin hunting' visual references, or Relic mode with a two-tone audio and typical relicy references. It does have a Pinpoint function.

The Prizm 6T is also a two mode detector with motion-based Discrimination and an All Metal mode. In the motion Discriminate mode you can hear a single audio tone or select a 9-Tone audio ID. One difference is you can also select to have standard audio in All Metal and Pinpoint or a VCO audio response.

Might I make a brief reference to the XLT and DFX. These models only have Discriminate or All Metal; operating mode ... two ... although the operator can program any operating mode to show icons or not, or to have audio Tone ID or not. Having different audio or visual information, when you get down to it, doesn't make a different 'mode.' Thus, the MXT is just a 2-mode detector, but it provides ample operator control for a variety of hunting applications. A versatile detector that has served, current serves, and will continue to serve avid detectors for years to come.

But it's not perfect and, for some, the M6 or 6T do provide something 'different' that can appeal to some hobbyists. The 6T, therefore, is going to be a better detector for some than the MXT, but I have;tn read anyone saying it is flat out 'better' in performance and such.

Monte makes the excellent point that there's a difference between best for some (users) versus outperform. That's why many of us have several different detectors for different types of hunting. I don't think this sort of debate will ever finish. LOL

If it works for you and you're happy... you got the best one for you. Nuff said.

And some people are nuts!

I have no doubt the 6T is a fine detector but unless you are interested in tone ID, which MXT users are not, then I see nothing that would make it a better detector.

Hey guy's. The only way that this debate will ever be finished is when your detector actually gives an image of what you found (no more guessing), the current value of the object, and then beams the object into your pouch, hand or on ground (depends on settings and object size). With no more holes in the ground, no one would care where you detected.

Don't kid yourself, Neal. Even if you could somehow find a cure for the common cold with your detector, someone somewhere would have a problem with it.
