That color isn't just pretty, it's useful. The analyze mode would be pretty hard to read without color. With the color display, the frequencies are very easy to read. I also like the use of red for rejected targets and green for accepted targets in the search screen -- easy to tell at a glance what that last beep was all about.

I do have a bit of problem with the math as the DFX 300 is $1199.99 and the V3 is $1499.99 and my math tells me that is only a $300 difference when you compare apples to apples. Both machines are sold with retail coil costs of $250 and neither come with headphones. Comparing the DFX 300 or regular DFX with the much cheaper 950 coil to the V3 WITH wireless headphones and D2 coil IMO is an apples to oranges comparison of costs.

To me the $300 difference is a steal for what technological advantages the V3 has and the more user friendly controls. It sees small gold with the 22.5 freq that the DFX can't with the hottest of programs and touching the gold with the coil: that alone to me as a beach jewelry hunter is worth far more than the $300 dollar cost difference. The DFX is 10 year old technology (good as it is it still is, it's out dated) and common sense would tell someone that the technology in the metal detecting business has improved over this time period. The analyze screen definitely saves it's user from digging trash once learned (my knees and back would have me pay far more than $300 for this advantage ;) ). Argue and compare as you want comparing the stock configurations and running the hottest programs you can on both (including TX Boost on the V) as a past DFX owner in my test garden the V3 does go significantly deeper and ring harder than my DFX and switching to the 5.3 coils on both again the V3 significantly wins the depth game in my garden. Hunting the beach for jewelry if I was using a DFX and hunting with those who own a V3 I would definitely feel very under-gunned.

As far as forums being biased, heck you are on a brand and model specific forum: what would you expect?

Anybody with experience knows test gardens don't equate with the real world of detecting and can't be used as a test the detector depth. I think most of us paid 1700.00 bucks for the V. So I still don't see any side by side comparisons done by experts. I am no expert so ,I don't count

My opinion, if you need this "proof" you are looking for you should just stick with your DFX....I think you will be happier that way. Heck, I'm not letting my XLT go, but on the same note....I know my V3 is the top gun just from the little time I have owned it.

After using the V for some months now I think that for six hundred bucks less the DFX is still a great machine. Put the 10 inch DD coil on it and I think it will find any thing the V finds.. I do like the features of the V, but it will cost you six hundred bucks more.

Greg, How can you go on with this??? You have wrong $$$ here!!!!
The DFX does NOT come with wireless head phones

So YOUR $600.00 is OFF base ! ! !

Now you want to debate "Test Gardens" . . .

Jerry

Very true test gardens don't equate to real world conditions but you can for comparison sake only compare the responses of two or more machines in that controlled environment and see one machine identifies the target easily when the other either doesn't see it at all or has just a faint signal.

It doesn't take a engineering degree, years of experience, or a controlled real world test to see that and draw reasonable conclusions. It is obvious that this discussion as to which machine is what will go nowhere without a UL test to prove one point or the other. I have posted my results as you have posted yours and it is what it is. Less V3's on the beach and more DFX's won't hurt my feelings or jewelry finds a bit :bouncy:

You guys got me all wrong. I love the V as much as I love the DFX and Whites. I just love to stir up poop sometimes. LMAO Some of you guys are so easy. Sensitivity in people these days. But really isn't the XLT the king? Oh and test gardens are for the veggies only.

ive got an early 70s jetco mustang with one knob. bring on that v . i can get coins with the jetco an inch under the ground as good as anybody. wheee
sorry guys i had to be the a**

Now that's funny Good to hear from somebody who is not so sensitive. I bet you could take on a lot of machines with your one knober
