5 More Tonite EXPLORER WOT AND X1!!

I went back to the field tonite for a couple of hours and found these. They were all at least 9 inches deep! The first three were the Shield Nickels. The dates are just about gone unfortunately but I THINK they are 1867, 1869 & 1873.
The next one was the 2 center. It was a really iffy signal on the WOT and deep! I think it was on edge to boot. In fact I thought it MIGHT be iron until I dug the hole I thought FOR SURE it was going to be a seated dime the way it hit on the Sunray X1 probe.
The Indian came out just as I was leaving at the end to the row! The grade on the copper coins that come out of this place is unbelievable! UNFORTUNATELY the fertilizer damage ruins them from a collector point of view
I usually throw away the lead I find. Is it worth keeping??

This will lighten your load believe me! I think I could hunt for 12 hours straight with it and not get worn out. I just got it a week or so ago and use it every time I hunt.

Nice job Keith. Where do the nickels hit? Any tricks to knowing a nickel from trash? Every time I hunt I dig a few signals that I think may be a nickel, and I have only gotten 1 in about 50 or 60 tries.
Thanks,
Todd

Slingshot ammo for the kids that bug us in the parks and shove their hands in the hole after nightcrawlers while we are digging.
Ok guys, this was a joke, maybe.

hunt old fields like Keith that have no modern trash! Just kidding.
I am not the nickel king like Golddigger and now Keith. I always dig pull tab ends going for nickels. But when I do dig a nickel I am always thinking that it is a bigger, better pinpoint than pull tab ends. Some day I will figure it out I suppose.

This has been my experience in Indiana....in a park or yard a nickel will (the majority of the time) read 6 on the XS digital screen. I a field it could be 4, 5 or 6. Fatty Indians that I have dug in fields read 8. And so do shotgun shells. In fields I dig everything if it's not too trashy. In parks and yards I usually go to digital to see if it's a 6 then I dig. The problem with that is if there is a gold ring where you are hunting you may well miss it since they read all over depending on the size and caret. I'm sure others will chime in on this and I welcome their thoughts and experiences!

You would think they would have value. I do hang on to the minie balls when I find them.

If you saved them and listed them in lots you would sell them. Throw a couple good old ones with more modern white ones and stick them on the bay.

Civil War era bullets (dropped, in good condition) will bring more than most of the coins we dig. Typically, a Merc dime will go for around .35 cents. A CW bullet (common) will now retail for an average of $3.00 - $7.50 each. Think I kidding? Visit some of the CW Dealers web sites. Carved or chewed (by humans) bullets can sometimes bring a premium. Don't think I would throw them away. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
