5.75" coil

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I hardly ever use the stock coil. the 5.75" seems to kick butt. Any advice on gold settings? I'm new so I thought 327 clad coins was good for one day. What is everyones record?. I found my first silver half-dollar yesterday. a 1945 , and a 1944 mercury dime in the same hole. (along with a 1952 nickel and 8 wheaties and one 59 memorial. that was my best hole ever yielding 12 coins total all over 50 yrs old. Raining hard here today. stuck inside.

No problem.

I use a Cibola and have done really well with it using the stock coil. I want to try the 5.75 and see how well it compares.

I use it on my Royal Sabre and it's a winner. Had it on my Silver umax, but dang if I didn't like the brown coil, too. I always use minimum discriminate when I'm looking for gold rings. That's because 75% of the rings I've found, for some reason, have fallen into the foil range. Wow, that's a lot of coins! My personal record was when they first came out with the AH Pro discriminator which no detector at that time could match finding coins among the tabs. I just remember it was over $25 in coins, with the majority being quarters.

I am a small older (50ish) man with a shoulder/neck injury. The 5.75 coil is lighter, gets close to objects, and picks through the trash well. Every time I put on my stock coil it is back off in less than a half-hour. This is my first detector. Any advice will be appreciated. There is only a small loss of depth in an air test compared to the stock coil. The 5.75 also pinpoints sharply. If it were not for the little 5.75 I would not have pulled 327 coins in one all day session.

The 5.75 is a winner. Slingshot mentions low discrimination for gold rings and he's right. I tested a tenth oz, quarter oz and half oz. gold coins (air) with my DeLeon and the smaller ones consistently displayed as foil or tabs. The half oz one kept reading as a zinc penny. Whether you use an ID machine or thumb the disc. knob to determine the possible target, if you don't dig tabs or zincs, you may be missing some great goodies.

I have the 5.75 concentric for the Cibola. I m one who doesn't really like the small coil--I guess I just need to spend time with it, and practice. All I seem to find with it, is trash.

Generally I prefer the concentric coils to the widescan and that's what my 5.75 is. However, many like the widescans and they are supposed to have an edge in mineralized ground and they seem to move through heavy trash better when comparing size for size. My two bits.

I use the 4" on my Silver and almost never go to the larger coil. I call it my big pin pointer. I would like to try the 5.75. Concentric is all thats made for the Silver.

From what I understand about the widescan design with the two "D" shaped coils it enables pinpointing at the heel or the toe. This explains how one can get just a little closer to obstructions by pinpointing with the toe. I would like to try a concentric coil to see/hear the difference.

I have 2 large & 2 small coils for my Tejon, 2 widescan & 2 concentric, the 5.75 widescan is my go to coil.
The depth achieved with it is amazing, far exceeded my expectations.
The Tejon seems to be all 'engine', no fluff or distracting screens
I always hunted with a 10-12" coil, until I tried the 5.75.
It works great in brushy areas to get up close to 'tree' trunks and brush. It seems like a lot of finds are near tree roots.

Down and unlucky

I have a new tejon with a 5,75 concentrative coil. It seems to go off not sure what to put on all metal or discriminate after 5 hours at a pick over foundation which is in the 1600 . Saw alot of other holes in area. Please I need help.I really cant have that bad luck. After 2 years .

Dont know if I can help but will try. First the tejon is very sensitive. My suggestion is to go to a trashy park and dig everything. Learn what it all sounds like. Try different disc. settings and thumb through targets in the main disc. after hitting in all metal, or just past where iron masks out. Learn where they break up on the main disc., put your own marks on a piece of tape if it helps. Stick with it. The tejon has good reviews from experts, which I am not. If I could learn it, so can you.

Has a lot to do with the kind of ground you hunt in. If its good ground, go with the concentric as you'll get better depth. The widescan (DD) coil is going to have slightly less depth, but will handle bad ground better. Also, the concentric is easier to pinpoint with.

With all this talk about the 5.75 coils, I am looking for a good price on a used or new 5.75 coil for Deleon. I believe it is the standard 5 pin that all uMax detectors use.
