I personally know of 3 friends that have had their detectors stolen out of a locked car. It really stinks to have it happen to you.
.
I have to say I'm one of them.. AT Gold... :ranting:

Deet will attack most plastics and is nasty stuff, but I use it also and always take care. Maybe a hair dryer on low heat will help dry it, but I would keep from hitting it with a strong blast of air because it may just spread it. I've tried the other natural products because of Deet melting the plastic, but met with very mixed results and have to apply more often. Also the one weakness of Deet is that it is not very good against Tics. Permethrin is great for Tics but deadly to Cats and Fish.

3M Ultrathon will work on ticks. the stuff is quite pricey though. the 2 oz. cream is the best, 34.34% DEET, 12 hour slow release, sweat proof, waterproof, $8.00. They also have it in aerosol and pump spray. Look it up on the web to see where it's sold in your area......NGE

Thanks for the tip, TICKS are my only real enemy here, I don't worry much about the mosquitoes and such, but I hate pulling ticks off of me...

If you get the cream, don't put it on heavy, flys and other pests will stick to it if they land on it:surprised:.............nge

Yes, mine has rubbed off. Seems like the paint never dried. I am pissed because I always keep my toys claen and not abused at all. It especially helps with resale vaule when the next Gen comes out. Minelab... you need to come up with soemthign on this , as It obviously is a defect. Maybe we should use mineral spirits to remove and put new decals on provided by Minelab. Guys, need to keep beating this subject to get somethign done. Definitely a recall item, considering we almost paid the price a a car for the machine.

I understand that you are just venting here on the forum Mike, but I think you would get more accomplished by talking to your dealer or Minelab service. It seems to me that is something that would be covered under warranty.

You would think it would be but if so every one is going to have to be sent in and that is going to be a problem.

A problem yes, but it is Minelab's problem and not everyone is having issues. I have had mine in in a very hot truck for days on end with no ill effects. Sure ML will have to replace the control box housing, I would have to think they are up to the task and I would be very disappointed in them if they were not. My guess is they a bad run where the paint was not properly cured for what ever reason.

That is what I love about my Chevy Impala as it has a huge trunk! Like they say out of site out of mind!

I am also having the same problem. I didn't leave mine in a hot car, I noticed it when I was coming back from a beach hunt. I am not saying it was the salt water, maybe bug spray or sunscreen?

One thing that could be happening (at least in some cases) may be due to the interaction of PVC compounds and plastic based paints.

You may have seen this reaction before with a car registration or proof of insurance card that 'sticks' to the vinyl window of your wallet.
Or photocopies/laser prints in a vinyl 3 ring binder where the first and last page 'stick' and transfer the lettering to the vinyl binder.
This is because laser printers use a plastic based ink(toner), and it goes through a chemical reaction when in contact with the PVC (vinyl) in your wallet or binder.

The same thing will happen with the vinyl in your headphone cushions, or the vinyl in your car seats/carpet.
I saw the same think happen with my CTX battery's label and my protective detector cover. I now fold up a piece of paper towel to separate the two, and all is well.
(But the battery logo/paint still looks pretty bad now that it's partially/mostly transferred to the inside of my detector cover.)
