3030 Painted Decals

Buried Crap NJ

New member
I saw a post a while back of someones painted decals coming off because I think heat in the car and they transfered to another object. Anyone else notice that the painted decals are rubbing off after only this short use of 70 days!
I was washing off the detector today and mine our rubbing/worn off in spots. Or is it just me?
BCNJ?

Mine are showing some wear too. A lot of my detector is showing wear though. The paint or varnish has worn on the lower rod and I am noticing it was a little loose.

My CTX 3030 left a red ML imprint on my car seats. Had to use Goo Gone to get if off. Wonder why some paints do that, not sure if its the type or quality of the paint.

Mine transfered itself to the waterproof headphone ear cuffs...

I also had minelab tatoos on my car seats. the logos must be made of paint that never dries.

Must not be a high temp paint. I guess if you are going to leave it in a hot car just make sure nothing is touching the logo. If it does wear off you'll then be in stealth mode.

LMAO thats great when can i buy that? doesnt look good in the aerodynamics department but it does look light enough to swing all day.

If someone is leaving any electronic device in a hot car in the summer your inviting problems. Mechanical and thieves. I highly suggest against it.

BBH - Mine was never left in a hot car. I placed mine in the car to go to a detecting spot, so it was lying on a room temperature car seat from inside my garage till the time I got to my hunting spot. I ran the AC the entire time. No excuse for what happened since the interior of the car never got above 80 degrees and that's being conservative. The red ML logo paint on the CTX is never fully dry, but is always in sort of a semi-sticky state. A lot of these guys wouldn't leave a $2500 machine lying in a hot car so don't blame the user in this case.

The bug spray I had on me smeared mine :-(

My post was just about the waring off of the painted decal. I have not left mine in the car either. I knew that someone did. Its like I posted the first week about the coil cover not attaching to the coil. I think at the price we are paying for these great detectors the could make sure the can handle the enviorment we use them in.

This shouldn't even be an issue - I've exposed my E-Trac to every sort of indignity (heat, bug spray, mud, poison ivy, etc.) and never had the paint disolve/rub off. Obviously, they are using a different paint spec for the 3030 and they need to fix it!

WestTn if you will notice I didn't blame or accuse anyone of being at fault. If this is rubbing off I am sure Minelab will address it. I have seen them do wonderful things for people.

I personally know of 3 friends that have had their detectors stolen out of a locked car. It really stinks to have it happen to you.

I have had a walkie talkie melt in a car seat once from a friend carelessly throwing it in my truck. It sucked but glad it was a fairly cheap lesson to learn the hard way.

Again, not blaming anyone, just offering advice as I have been down both roads myself.

Boy, you guys are touchy. I withdraw my statment about leaving any detectors in hot cars. Hope you are all releived and happy now!

I'm getting my CTX today so I'll report here later. I'd heard these machines are made in Indonesia--is this true? I don't think the original e-Tracs were made there. This is probably a quality of materials issue that will have to be addressed by Minelab. Like a lot of the crap that still comes out of China. A decal where the paint is tacky is unacceptable at any price point much less this one. Too bad they moved manufacturing out of Ireland, etc.

I didn't have any decal trouble from heat, but I did discover that a little DEET from bug spray, an absolute necessity where I live in Maine, will soften the plastic itself. I forgot I had it on my hands, and now the nice Minelab insignia on the back of the battery case is a mess. Does anyone know a way for the multi-thumbed like me to stop the softening once it starts? Thanks.

Deet will attack most plastics and is nasty stuff, but I use it also and always take care. Maybe a hair dryer on low heat will help dry it, but I would keep from hitting it with a strong blast of air because it may just spread it. I've tried the other natural products because of Deet melting the plastic, but met with very mixed results and have to apply more often. Also the one weakness of Deet is that it is not very good against Tics. Permethrin is great for Tics but deadly to Cats and Fish.
