3030 let me down

flhunter

New member
I was hunting in a field with radio towers 800 yards away, railroad track 75 yards away.

My CTX was so erratic that it was impossible to hunt with. I dont know which was causing it, but I assume the towers. Cheap detectors out performed mine, they had no interference what so ever. I was stuck watching them dig all day.

I tried automatic noise cancellation, but it didn't help.

How can I hunt this area?

hes shouldnt have to buy a back up its a 2k+ detector... Sorry to hear that that is a big dissapointment to hear and I was thinking about getting one in April but if emi is a big concern I cannot use the 3030 because I am in the city and alot of EMI

Hopefully someone can shed some light on EMI issues GL HH

Yes, what he said:crylol:

You must have really had some bad emi or something wrong with the detector. I used mine at a place that I could not even run the Omega at because of EMI and the 3030 ran with no problems at all. I made a video in fact at this same spot and dug some deep silver coins with the 3030.

You didn't hit the pin-point button by mistake did you. If not something is wrong with the CTX. I have and have owned several Minelab machines and EMI has never kept me from hunting. Turn it back on and hit the detect button and see if that does'nt help. Best thing is call Minelab repair 1-877-767-6522.

When I got home, I took it out in my yard and it ran great, so there is nothing wrong with the machine.

I have a video of how it was acting.

I've hunted in the city a lot and never had a problem. But if we can figure out this issue, I'll have no complaints, this is an incredible machine and the best part is minelab will keep releasing software patches for it and they will fix any problems we bring to light.

I wouldn't let this discourage you, I've used some of the best machines out there and this one is superb.

I learned a long time ago with v3 that more isn't always better.... I went manual turned sensitivity way down and still dug plenty of deep targets I couldn't believe it... hopefully this helps... HH

If that is your reason not to buy, great. But for accuracy, I hunt in Houston, ALL the time, and on demo lots with buried power cables, overhead power lines and Microwave towers near and I have NEVER EVER had an unresolvable EMI issue. If it acts up I rebalance (and have NEVER used ground balance), or turn the sensitivity down a bit. The CTX is a phenominal machine. The proof is in the results. I have 52 silver coins since Jan 1, 2013, and about 130 silver coins since I started using the CTX in August of last year. That doesnt count the numerous rings and pieces of jewelry. Mark, my hunting buddy and I have close to 300 since Aug, 2012, and got 4 silver coins yesterday and three rings. The CTX is virtually unaffected by EMI.

Talked to Minelab today and they said manually reduce the sensititvy and manually noise cancel, if that doesn't work then I'm out of luck

mine goes nuts under those big power tower lines too,so dose my at pro, but they only do it under 50 feet from the main towers but under the lines are ok for me

I think it is important to remember that even though this is a 2k detector, it will not automatically work perfectly everywhere, and it will not automatically find the goods. The CTX is an excellent machine, and for the most part can find and maintain stability all on its own with no problems, but there are adjustments available because sometimes we NEED to use them. It is all about user, the way the machine is used, and probability of hunting locations. With the CTX, and some of the targets I have recovered among trash, I feel more confident that ever that I did not miss anything that I put my coil over.

Sound's like Minelab told you the same thing and you concluded with the negative comment "I guess I'm out of luck".. I'm quite sure they told you that...

G..

I have hunted very close to transmission lines and haven't had an issue. I just don't know why you would go hunting with just one detector for the whole day? If I am not within 1/2 hr of home I bring two never know when one quits.
Buried Crap

That's odd. The other day, I checked property I just got a permission for (waited 6+ months to get it). Cell tower was like 100 yards away and I had ZERO problems having everything in auto.
I used to have a brand name cheap detector and I know for a fact that CTX can be used in places where my previous detector was useless. To be perfectly honest, I think that you either accidentally pushed pinpoint button (it resets after power off) OR hat you had a loose connection (make sure that the connectors are screwed in completely) OR (I truly hope not) you are trolling.
