3 hour hunt with the Outlaw

Got out this morning with the Outlaw for a few hours. Nothing spectacular, shooting for the gold so i dug ALOT of pull tabs!! I think it's time to send the O back to Tesoro. In the middle of hunting in disc mode she starts acting as if in all metal no motion and stays there no matter what i do. When i flip to all metal auto the threshold is blarring even if i turn it zero thresh.. I shut it off and start again and it,s back to normal, but only for a little. It happens when you start messing with the retune button. Not all the time, but when it does happen, it's when you push the retune. I hate to say but it's time to move on from this machine. She will get shipped to tesoro for repair and up for sale. I hunted with the 5 3/4" coil only. The depth with ppwer balancing, thresh at 1 oclock and sens at 7 is impressive. I was digging pull tabs at 8" no problem. This thing is just way to qwacky for me. Its for the Mxt pro...

Well IDX Pro,

I guess you did not consider my offer to swap detectors for a short period of time, I would really like to check out your wacky Outlaw. All you Tesoro folks out there, the detector I offered to IDX on a "temporary" swap, me paying all shipping costs is a perfectly operational Bandido ll, the old style with 10 turn ground balance with auto-tune and manual-tune all-metal mode. This Bandido is a really hot unit and I would never get rid of it, I just wanted IDX to experience what an excellent performer that detector is, and, along the way get to the bottom of this Outlaw "re-tune button" issue. I tried to get him to respond via PM's but he never got back with me, so I will put it out here on the open forum, so..... IDX the offer still stands if you are interested.

Honestly Randy, I have been giving it some thought and just wanted to be sure of my decision before replying. I also haven't really been able to get any real detecting time here due to the weather. Today is first real decent day in a long time. I didn't want to send it off just when the weather is getting better to be able to better test it. With that said, it really drove me nuts today and I'm done with it. Id hate to loan a machine that I feel malfunctioning however. I truly believe it is. For no reason at all it now gets caught in all metal no motion in disc mode. It bizarre. If you feel you still want to give a whirl even though I think she's due for some issue repairs, your on. I will do it..

I'm heading out now to test some more. If she acts up again I will video tape it with my phone for all to see...

You could have some kind of glitch.Such a nice lightweight detector.Maybe we can all help here to figure this out.I read something about a glitch some time back on another site. You may have to send it on in.You can unscrew the control box from rod and just send in the coil and box.

Spirit, I've read about issues with the outlaw on several different forums and then they were removed from the forum. hearing things like "you can't use non motion for hunting" and "you must hit returned periodicaly while in disc" is unacceptable. This is simply not how this should run. This isn't something one should just settle for. Not for nearly $600. These issues we are all experiencing are not right, and tesoro needs to address it . I feel I've wasted since November attempting to figure this out and even with this latest issue fixed I will not be happy with all of the other issues it has. If I want to hunt in all metal no motion (reason I bought it) I should be able to without all of the weird stuff it starts doing....

Ok guys go to YouTube and type stupamanu.. that's my YouTube channel and you will see two vids taken five min apart of my experience...

Sorry to say but no motion all metal is not a mode you want to hunt in.Maybe standing in a same spot.No motion is not a hunting mode.True note the word TRUE no motion. It has no automatic retune. You may could hunt with it in the woods. But you would have to continually hit the retune button to keep it stable.True no motion is not going to be a good hunting mode i do believe. :-(

Thats exactly what i enjoy, deep woods hunting. What did you think of the videos? On the second video you can see where it goes into emergency broadcast mode...lol

IDX Pro,

It is hard to tell in your video what is going on with your Outlaw, my Bandido models operate completely different. Quirky behavior to say the least. When I checked your YouTube channel, I saw 53silvers videos on the Outlaw, completely different results:shrug: I think it needs a trip to Prescott for evaluation, that's my opinion.

Wow checked out you vids and that is really weird for sure almost like the all metal and disc switch is backwards and the retune button seems to be sticking I would send it in and have Rusty look at it personally also would be a great thing on their part to acknowlege on here as the results of their findings of this unit What say fellow Tesoro Outlaw owners as well as future Outlaw buyers lets see if they would be willing to do this !!!!

It will go plenty deep.Hunt in auto and switch to disc to check target. If you want to check the target in no motion you can do that too.Just slow down a minute.I think you are jumping the gun without giving this a chance. If you have a problem we will help you with it.Just because no motion is not a good search mode does not mean that the no motion is no good at all.It could be good for something, just not in the search mode.I think you should field test it some more. You are all fired up about this no motion stuff.Look,no one has really noticed it yet but i have. The Outlaw in the auto all metal and disc mode has a slow automatic retune rate. Most Tesoros have a fast retune rate. This slow retune rate makes it a killer relic and deep coin detector combined with the 10khz freq and this is a jam up detector. Not many of us have had a chance ourselves to check it out.But if you can not figure it out or like it then?

It looks like a low battery, but soposing you have a new battery, yes somthing is wrong. mine had never done that in disc mode, its not right it will never do that in disc mode never send it in , if it worked the wayits soposed to it would be very difrent , but i will say this the no motion is like riding a bull at a rodeo you have to know how it works I know if you are close to any big metal its going to sound off more so in no motion but what you have is falty for shure, but to me you may want to try a new battery . just to see, hope this gets resolved.

With all due respect Spirit, to say you can't hunt in no motion is rediculous. Why the hell would they put it there? Why do so many relic hunters enjoy this feature on select machines? You can hunt in this, i do hunt in this mode, and tesoro cant get their crap together, you can bet it will be gone.

Thanx gun....the battery was brand new duracell bought before this mornings hunt....

Barry , i completely agree. There have been many problems with outlaw and the golden. Not sure whats going on over there but wish they had a refund instead of a warranty...
