I hunted a farm field yesterday that was the site of a former 1860's church. Although I only found a couple of Indian Head Cents, the best find of the day was my second Colt Open Top Pocket Model .22 cal. Revolver. The first was found at a schoolhouse field site in April 2022 and had a serial #72011. The second one that was found yesterday has a serial #58582. These revolvers were manufactured by Colt between 1871-1877. If my research is correct this makes the mfg date 1875 on both. These were designed for easy concealment and many people were known to carry them in their boots as well as in their pockets. My thoughts are that many were lost over the years and the brass frame gives off a very good signal to the metal detector......Thanks for looking!
