Thanks everyone.. still on cloud 9 showing all my co-workers today. It is fun everyone speculating where it has been and Tue journey it has taken.. It I'd amazing how a chunk of silver can spark so many people's interest..

I know how you feel lol I certainly felt on cloud 9 when I found my 1910 barber half dollar haven't found silver since. What part of northern California you in?

:)

Awesome recovery, Jackalope!

Congratulations JackalopeZL1 on a great find. Your persistence really paid off. I guess that the lesson to all is that a good target in close proximity to trash can/will distort the VDI on a signal. Best of luck and...

Happy Hunting!

You are well over a 5 hour drive from me lol. I tried detecting up in that area but a lot of iron contamination and it's nearly impossible to detect. I had gone up to the angels camp/sonora area where a lot of family lives and tried to detect the old house and Soo much iron that the safari I had at the time wouldn't work was just sounding off 100% of the time was about the worst ground I ever saw in my life.

I wonder what 5 francs would have bought in 1811? I'll bet the guy who lost it was shaking as much as when you found it! That could've bought the farm!!!

Thanks again folks, And I too wonder what that would have bought back then? I also often think what it was actually spent on as well. So fun to imagine all thins stuff.

Congrats, that is one beautiful big old silver!!

I've never detected in gold country, but sure have seen a lot of great finds come from California gold country

hh,
Cal

Thanks Cal Cobra, Went out again to this spot and found a 1700's Chinese coin and a few other period relics. The grass is so high it is really hard hunting there. Can't wait for the grass to be gone :)
