Ahh! OK!
For some reason the detector in that pic didn't look like a typical off the shelf CTX. I think they guy in the mask might of had something to do with it!:heh:

Getting the replacement right IF an update even happens and its not looking good, would IMO require input from eTRAC detectorists.
Far as i know that hasn't happened.

If they contacted any non-Minlab employees at all before designing the CTX, it was probably a handful of experienced 'elitist' detectorists and/or consultants and not the average Joe. And i'll bet they might of got a free CTX for their input so cost was no issue. The consultants just got their paycheck from Minelab.

Its beyond me why they would design a detector with a $2500 price tag which they had to know would have a limited market.
Thats probably why their strategy was to keep up production of the old eTRAC and also to squeeze every last penny out of that machine.

Looks like Minelab is up to their same 'ol dictatorial games again.

Its the pre production model for the ET 2 probably and when loads of people on a certain site or two said they wanted a few add ons it became more than a simple ET 2 .

Des on this thread is an ex Employee from the Ireland branch and when they let him go they made a complete fowl up , he not only knows the machines but knows what the simple average detectorist wants , he knows what I want .
Its not Minelab that is the problem its the interfering idiots at Codan . Its happening in my place of work too.
Sponge it for all its worth , pay the top management and shareholders bucket loads , get rid of experienced Minelab staff and put in their own people that think they know what we want , have what look like models advertise the machines and charge the earth . This time they fowled up I mean fowled up damn it wont come out :D .

I don't care if they keep the ET in production as that is what I will buy next again if necessary but Minelab are in trouble if they think they can hold on to market share selling old designs and heavy expensive machines that appeal to far less than a machine like the Deus which is light and advanced even though maybe not as deep as some older machines it is a delight when it comes to weight .

I don't care much about weight provided the design is right that's why I wanted a slightly nose heavy design with a 3 piece straight stem , something like the new Golden mask 5 stem would do.

If i were running a detector company, i would want to know exactly what the 'majority' of my customers wanted in a new model AND how much they were willing to pay for it. Getting info off the internet forums anonymously is ok for a start but wouldn't cut it for the final prototype. Would need to separate the wheat from chaff.
Then i'd let them see what we came up with, the reasons for it, the price and get feedback on it. This is metal detecting, not some top secret.

I can't see the majority of ordinary run of the mill detectorists wanting a $2500 price tag and for features they don't need!
For those who need or want GPS ok fine as is a waterproof option. But let those options be optional same as the wireless headphones to keep the price down.
As far as the stem configuration, maybe also different options there too.

I would say S"" from the clay :) , only want clay on my hands .

What we need is a light weight stem like the telescopic stem on the Golden Mask 5 , same battery as the ET , a 70 by 50 pixel screen though the same screen would do , FBS 2 capabilities , takes ET coils , more room to save more settings and programs , water proof control box that could be detached like the Terra , proper 5 year warranty . That's pretty much all I can think of at the moment but that should sell like hot cakes , if I could have made one myself I would but my brain only has one cell and that's knackered to at the moment :D ,

All good ideals. I would buy one in a heart beat. Minelab are you listening to your customer's.

No , hence the CTX and Go Find.

Their bread and butter is in the Gold and mine detectors .
