2 more 18k's out of Horseshoe Bay:thumbup::thumbup:

My new hunting buddy Lee called this morning and we chatted about where to go hunting today and eventually we decided that Horseshoe Bay was still the best bet considering the minus tide and the weather forecast. Lee wanted to get to the beach early and I figured to show up around an hour before the 1436 low tide. After I got off the phone with Lee the Princess reminded me that a) I had promised to go walking with her today and b) she wants some quality time with me before she flies out tomorrow on a business trip to Canada.:surrender: Quick bit of back pedalling on my part, slipped into my sneakers and we headed off to Horseshoe Bay for our walk on the beach together. (might as well kill two birds with one stone by checking out the conditions while I walk)
We entered the beach and who do I spy in the water about nipple deep? Seaslug aka Lee, who else. It was only mid-tide but Lee was in there like a trooper, digging away intently. I didn't want to interrupt his hunt so we moved along, which is to say that I caught up with Susan who was in full stride, enjoying our walk without me.:cheekkiss: We walked for an hour along the beautiful shoreline and wound up our walk at Tio Pepe's Restaurante which is located at the entry to Horseshoe Bay Park. A couple of mojito's and a shared quattro sangiolone pizza hit the spot just right; then I dropped my lovely wife at home to prepare for her trip while I donned the wetsuit and headed down to Horseshoe to hunt with Lee.
I got to Horseshoe Bay around 1330 but Lee was no where in sight. I figured he had caught a chill and headed for home but since I was already there I decided I might as well hunt the cool waters and try to find some gold. It started out very lean with only the ocassional dime mixed in with a bit of trash but I finally hit an area about 30' x 30' that delivered up some nice finds. I worked that for about an hour before my teeth started chattering uncontrollably and I had to call it a day after 2 hours in the surf.:detecting:

Today's Loot:

1 - 18k Ornate men's wedding band
1 - 18k Ladies wide band with star pattern
1 - hoop earring that may or may not be silver
1 - Mexx chain with lacquered butterflies attached
1 - pair of sunglasses (that I managed to smash one arm off)
1 - pair of car keys (somebody had to walk home from the beach)
$3.85 in clad (US and Bermudian - no specials)

Cheers Mates,

Ok, youve been out of it for awhile but it looks like your making up for it in a big way. Good for you and the best of luck out there.

bdahunter the negative here is after midnight also would this be a good time to check the surfline since it will be lower than normal?
I know you get in the water and I have tried once with no success as the waves and soft sand in area beat me to death trying to stay balanced. SInce I never found anything there was not issue at all. On digging up I thought it was going to be difficult if there was something found. How do you dig in the surf not knowing what is below you for the cloud i am sure that digging will create? Is this s secret or one of the trial and error things life always throws at you. I have had one Md'er refer to fanning and area while walking and did not understand the concept at all could you elaborate on how this is done>Any help would be appreciated. My e-mail is hwadkins@autodamageappraisers.net if you would prefer to send in this manner.
Thanks

Digging the low tide by the light of the full moon is tempting because it is often lower than the daytime low tide but there are some pitfalls. After dark the beach takes on a different feel all together, there are often drunks and nefarious sorts that may hassle you or even try to rob you, a headlamp is a necessity (preferably with a red lens) and that light will attract unwanted attention to yourself. If you are going to hunt the wee hours it is best to have a hunting buddy as there is safety in numbers but you will still be largely deaf because you are wearing headphones, this makes it easy for someone to sneak up on you. If you get into the water there are also the men in the grey suits to contend with and that's something most of us won't do. (GH excepted)
The loot is in the water or the wet sand, I prefer the Mine over the Lane/wet sand but that's what my conditions dictate. Digging through the cloud of sand becomes second nature after a while. The technique that works for me is to maintain a swing that is a consistent distance away from my feet, then when I target with a cross sweep and then a circular targeting movement I slide my scoop down at the same angle and that puts my scoop right on the money, more or less. I don't really need to see where the scoop is, I feel it. (wearing polarized sunglasses will help with the glare but not the murkiness) If the surf is up and the target is deep (beyond a few big scoopfuls) then I will fan the hole with my foot (wear dive boots) to move large volumes of sand out of the way,(fanning is just using your foot or your hand to blow the sand away) then confirm the target has not been blown out of the hole, then follow up with the scoop. This technique will save you a lot of time and energy that you can better utilize swinging that big coil.

thank you. I live on the beach here and was not going to any beach just here to give it a shot at night as I have had some luck right down the beach from a large cut a couple of weeks ago but ran out of goodies from resanding and other hunter in same area. It was just a hankering and i actually thought no light until needed would be a better method of staying hidden until needed light is turned on. This is a pretty quite area and well patroled.
I appreciate the concern and the guideance. It sould like water hunting is more energy consuming than dry hunting. I will have to get in shape for that a little by little. I recently at 50 a heart attack and require three stints and rehad. I was you prototypical athletic type thought it woulf never happen to me well I was wrong. I worked seven days a week and spent little time enjoying myself but decided that would change and it did. I have people who I trust running business and I am looking for adventure and fun 7 days a week now. I still monitor my business and get a few calls but they wait until I call back not when it rings. I guess all my life I have been a studier of whatever I do from shooting guns to fishing to playing golf. I did not know how to just enjoy the moment and not worry about scores or ability. This hobby is very relaxing and requires nobody but yourself to participate in and I really enjoy that aspect. I compete only for myself and not because i have to be better than someone else on that day. I guess i am prototypical starter as i dig for everything and want to know what it is. if encapsulated i take it and break it up to see what it was. I have found a car head on the beach spark plugs which were encapsulated to the point of having no idea other than a hot rock. I wonder how many time someone else hit it dug it and the threww ot back down because it appeared to be crusted up nothing. Kind of very novel knowing what the hot was and no one else took time to see.
I know you get tired of questions but i always like to ask first and not assume.
Thank again
By the way you are just across the water if you are in Bahamas I am in Jensen Beach area.

You are hard at it I see, I LIKE IT! Trust we will catch up on the pics, when the new camera clears customs, eh mate? You running Excal out there, or some of that off brand stuff? I do like a night out on the sea, whenever the tide calls, I go!

All finds have been with the CZ-21. The Excal is still on the fritz and the dually hasn't been out to play since before Christmas. It took me a while to adjust to the CZ-21 but I really like it now.
What I really need to find is an underwater camera that I can't break. This is my 5th one in 4 years.:rage:

bdahunter, Congratulations and thanks for posting this thread! I got some great tips on hunting and on waterproof cameras. HH!

bdahumter well i retrieve my first two objects while in the water today using your method. It worked fine. Neither one of us can help they were junk but i got them out and in the scoop. I like the pull push method with the md as it is much eaiser to control with less effort. Thanks for the advise.
About the time I was ready at low tide a young lady approached me to look for an earring she lost and spent the remainder of low tide looking for that piece. She remembered her last notion of wearing was in the motel down the road several blocks. By the way it was silver with black and silver bars if anyone finds on the beach in Miami near where they have set stage for Superbowl concert please let me know. I have the young ladys card and it is probably not worth a great deal but i believe had sentimental value to her. If you are on the beach facing the stage it would be on the right side from beach entrance toward the beach. There is a lot of trash on this beach and it would take a month to clean for better locating but if anyone does please let me know so i can get you in touch with her top return. She was offering cash to locate but she did not discuss amount.
Thanks
