1st real hunt with the Vista Gold.

FINALLY, got out for a real field test of the Vista Gold at a very well worked Civil War site in SE Tennessee.

I first hunted the site around 1982-83, and that was after it had been pounded to death by the people who originally found it--they were using Fisher 1260's at the time, if that gives you oldies any idea how long ago it was.

Anyway, me and a buddy of mine spent about 4 hours there yesterday--the site is bisected by a set of those big, high tension power lines, which in the past gave my F75 fits.

I ran the Gold with 90+ sensitivity, and it ran quiet as a mouse.

I spent a lot of time second guessing the Gold--digging questionable (to me) signals that had an occasional high tone mixed in with the low. In my mind, those were maybe ultra deep non-ferrous targets that were trying to peep through to give a good signal on the discriminate circuitry.

None of them were good targets and for the most part, the ones that WERE good sounded that way.

No pics, but I pulled out three dropped .58 minies, a dropped .58 round ball, and an eagle staff cuff. Depth on those items ranged anywhere from 6-8".

The last time I had my F-75 there, I don't think I found that much.

I think Fisher could learn a thing or two from Deeptech's shield technology regarding EMI.

Gregg, Great Finds !!!

Usually if there is a high tone, it will "clear-up" after you move the coil over it left to right a few times...
Excellent finds on the first hunt though.. It only gets better... Richard
