I pulled this wreath of leaves gold ring out of dry sand on a near deserted beach. Marked “AU 750” and “Tiffany & Co.” this 18k beauty fits my wife perfectly and it is already gone. Looked up on Tiffany site and retail listing is a cool $1,200! Funny thing, when I first found it, I thought it said “Sterling 925”; the lettering is real small. Figured it was gold plated. Got home and with loop discovered the real identity of the little treasure. At 3.09g the ring rang up a “23” on the Manicore (Beach deep, extra boost, Separation “4”, Sensitivity 32, Noise cancel, ground balanced).
Spent about 60 hrs in dry sand, only, this season (Dec - May) so far and have snagged 2 beautiful gold rings; the Tiffany gold ring and a 22k clunker at 8.57g yielding a solid $500 in gold. At first thought the latter clunker was junk because of the bold word "Puya" on the surface, but got it home and the loop revealed .916 - 22k!!! Found the 22k ring with the Equinox 800 with 15" coil. If I recall correctly, the ring rang in at "22" on the 800.
I had previously shown for both the Equinox 800 and the Manicore that as gold ring weight increases the VID on both detectors increases so that lighter gold is found at the lower numbers and heavier gold is found at the higher numbers. For the 800, heavy clunkers can reach 24 or so, and for the Manicore heavy gold rings can reach the upper 60s. There is really no lower limit for either detector for gold, if it is small and light enough.
