17" coil makes old spot like new. Unbelievable:yikes::super:

Not many places we can run max sens. is very true but a lot of sites I am able to run 26 or higher . I am able to run the sensitivity much closer to max than I could with the Explorers and even the E-Trac and still be stable.I think this fact alone gives me more "usable" depth at many sites.
All FBS machines are motion machines and require motion to detect targets in disc mode.Slow is good for separation at the expense of some depth so sweep speed is site dependent. The old myth that the Explorers had to be swung at a snails pace is just that a myth.In extreme trash it works best but a waste of time in more open cleaner ground with moderate mineralization while actually loosing depth.Any test garden will prove my statements......

The CTX has a much faster processor speed so it is even more capable at a bit faster pace than previous fbs machines.

Glad to read you are enjoying your big coil and are finding deeper targets.

Ray that is one of the first things I noticed about the CTX. I took mine to a church grove that I have hunted for months. Been there many times with the E Trac. When I went to manual sensitivity with the CTX I saw right away that I was getting more stability with higher numbers.

Ray you may have to tell the story. I have been anxiously awaiting the story. Really wanting to get the 17" coil and the story may be the trick

Dammit Dr Bob! Look at the poo storm you started! C'mon and post some pics with a write-up or something! Theres a lot of us lurking out here trying to discern a purch decision!

Sure, most clubs are in the habit of giving 100 Tee shirts for telling how well a third party product works :stars:

Hey Ray-MO Ive got a few questions for you if you don't mind me asking.. on the first page you mentioned, "In my test garden I have found the 13x17 will hit/ID 10" dime targets as well as the stock coil at max manual sensitivity ( 30 ) while running larger coil at only 18 manual with all other setting being the same." So my first question is, Were you not able to increase the sensitivity past 18 in auto? or were you just making an example of the power of the 13x17, that you only had to push the sensitivity to 18 manual to reach and ID that 10" dime? Also if you remember off the top of your head, what was the ID number of the 10" dime. Reason why i am asking is because i am having trouble being able to spot coin sized targets past 8 inches or so. It would be pretty helpful if you could do a quick video of what a 10 inch dime hits and sounds like. I don't have any place to construct a test garden or i wouldn't bug ya asking. The only place would be in a park but it just wouldn't feel right digging extra holes just to test out some deep coins. if you know what i mean. Thanks in advance, HH

Yes I was able to run much higher sensitivity with the large coil but was only pointing out how it would hit test coin at much lower sensitivity than stock coil.At 26 and above I was able to raise the large coil a inches above the 10" test dime and still get it.
It hit around 12-45,46 most passes.
As far as a test target in a park you could always use a hole you had dug for a coin and just go a bit deeper. Use a clad dime and leave it for the future.Nothing like hands on experience to learn what your machine is saying on deep coins.Next time out I will try to shoot a bit of footage on some deep targets.

Absolutely what an excellent idea. I'm not going to lie to you though it feels funny standing in one place for long periods of time. I just don't want to stand still long enough for people to approach me. lol but I'm sure now that its getting colder not that many people will be out walking around. Thanks again for the tip. HH
