12 inch coil

If you are buying new one it is. It does not like wet sand but seriously excels in depth and coverage. Make sure it has a v stamped on the tab. Mine only made it 2 outings before it went bad and Whites replaced it.

Burlbark is correct about the rating. The BHID uses the 12" coil so I'm not sure why it would not like wet sand. I haven't heard a complaint from the guys. Guys have had their old BHID upgraded to the 300 coil. We haven't had posts of bad coils is quit a while. Just remember, as long as the null is good enough to prevent overloading, it will not affect performance. ROB

I heard just the opposite on the 12" in wet sand. Those who had trouble with with noise on the beach with the D2 went to the 12" and loved it. I suppose it depends on what beach you were hunting on though.

Yep my 12" v-rated coil just cannot handle the wet sand. Now mind you my beaches where used as city dumps all the way up into the 50's and numerous specs of iron run through all of them. The D2 handles this mineralization wonderfully but not the 12". I ran it today on a fairly quiet beach for the D2 and it was talking all the time. I will turn the gain down to 4-6 , Disc at 85 and then crank it back up in the dry sand.

BHID does not have the hi transmit power of the V3, not sure about the frequency(s) on the BHID but I am told the higher one on the V3 does not like the salt.

My 12" I tried when I got it on the beach and put it back in the bag. I tried it relic hunting the other day and it overloaded so it needs to go back.

I love my V3, hope they have gotten the coil issues resolved since I got my last one.

When the V3 has a properly tuned coil I was getting equal or better depth in some cases than anything else with the same sized coil that I have ever used which is pretty much every good detector out there.

What surprised me the most was my first times out with the Vision and the stock coil I was getting civil war minnies in pounded places measured 14" with some target ID.

Nautilus would get an all metal signal at that depth but no disc without scalping the ground a couple of inches.

I only used high pro and loved it. Bad back and bad weather last winter prevented me from detecting, trying to get out more but need to send in my machine and all the coils for re balancing and the V3i upgrade.

12" coil is heavy for me but if I could get 1 1/2 to 2" more on bullets and really deep on something like a belt plate I would hunt with it more.

Will post my results when I get my detector back from Whites

If your coil overloads at RX15 with TX boost held in the air waist high it is a bad coil. If it is a bad coil it won't handle any ground not just wet sand. The 12" and 950 are both concentric coils will handle wet sand. I don't see many bad coil now. You said you have a Vision in one line, if so it would have early coils. The 22.5kHz frequency has no trouble on the beach. The high frequency has problems with non V rated coils. Also on one line you said you had a V3 if so the upgrade changed the ground tracking to better handle the wet to dry sand transition. The V3i is a quieter and more stable platform.

A lot of Civil War ground needs a DD coil to handle the minerals.

Sorry for the confusion but I had great success with the vision on land hunting relics but terrible on the beach.

Whites replaced it with a V3 and that is what I have been using, Thanks
