$10 million in gold coins found!

Goldstrike

Well-known member
I couldn't help but share this find with you. This is a metal detectorist's dream find! OOppss I could not paste the link. $10 million (in coin value) in gold coins was found in California today (it is in the news) and the coins from the 1800's were mostly uncirculated!

holy #$%! why couldnt i stumble upon this lol

I bet someone will wish that he kept his mouth shut on the gold finds.

Larry.....yep, I agree, you have to be very careful after finding a cache like this! Unfortunately I still could not paste the link but it states that the couple that found this are being tight lipped on the location. Although the article doesn't specifically go into how they retrieved the coins, this find goes to prove again that an undetermined amount of very valuable cache's are still out there and it helps all of us to renew our enthusiasm for this great hobby of metal detecting!:clapping:

Were they detecting? If so what were they using? Heck of a thumbs up for some company. I will keep hunting clad, it is alot more fun, and I can put my finds in a bubble gum machine!! HaHaHa!!

Amazing find! Although if I found something of this magnitude, the principle of "The best kept secrets are the ones you keep to yourself" would apply.

Thanks for the link Larry!

I would suspect that this would fall under capital gains tax law and they would need to pay the fed 38%?

That being said the hoard may be purchased by a single buyer and that amount may surpass the numismatic value of single coin sales by a very large margin.

Death and taxes, loose lips sink ships, either way they found what we all dream of finding.

Would Wells Fargo still have a claim on stolen loot in the area?

I watched that on the news. What a amazing find. The coins are absolutely beautiful and what history I would love too have met the person who buried them. Although I did not like the way news kind of talked about metal detector hobbyists and treasure hunters. Almost made me feel like we were trespassers or something. Big turn off on the article.

Forget the metal detecting....Im just getting a dog.......wow....walking his dog and finds MILLIONS! I would guess that some of the coins will sell for more than expected.

I really didnt like the comments either about treasure hunters but.....There has been people caught hunting in darkness with camouflage on and with night vision equipment.....so it pays to be careful.

All I can say is my laptop is soaking wet with drool looking at these coins and reading about this incredible find!! I just wonder where and who buried them? Were they the result of a life time's savings of someone earned by blood sweat and tears? Or are they the ill-gotten gains from a bank robbery? maybe a train robbery or perhaps a stagecoach robbery? I wonder if there are more cans of coins on the property?
It seems like no one knows for sure and if they did, they are not telling! This find will be talked about for a long time, that's for sure!

My guess is they will be flooded with lawsuits from past property owners families, insurance companies, various government agencies and banks all wanting the hoard or at least, their share.

I agree with Larry, would love a find something like this and who wouldn't.

I cant even post my meager best finds out of fear of someone trying to grab it out of my hands. I am sure there will be a dozen people trying to claim ownership.

What about those who was real owners ( or at least ) ; who buried those coins there !?

They ( or he ) who knows... Never came back to get his fortune !!

May be died without telling to anyone this secret;

The last thing their (his) mind was that today International news around the word; posting theirs coins to every one in the word;

May be his thought was hide for calms days , may be running from strike action in some bank who knows.........

Crazy :blink:

Wow $3,800.000.00 in taxes! That sounds really fair. *sarcasm*
