1.10 update

I used the oil based paint pen anticipating it was going to get wet but haven’t used mine much since. But have used it on other things and its held up well. Im sure the latex based will hold up fine if you don’t get it wet much.
I would carefully use a hair dryer or something to heat dry it some to “bake” it before using it and you should be good
Thanks for the suggestion.

My issue was not the looks of the Nokta Legend cover with the red buttons it was the fact it would not stay aligned where it was supposed to be, and I am not the only one that had that complaint about it I purchased two one for each of mine and my wife's legend and they were both the same so I pulled them off and put the Deanos back on, I initially started with the Sly Lynx dust covers for the Simplex Plus on mine and my wife's which worked great also, and then switched to the Deanos which I like a lot then when the Nokta covers came out I purchased two of them again they looked really nice but would not stay put on the legend so I removed them from both Mine and my wife's Legends, some one wants them I will let them have them for a couple dollars and shipping charges LOL would probably cost more in shipping than the couple dollars LOL
yea being a newbie I was sold on the red buttons as you said earlier black on black buttons are hard to see or distinguish, also my first thought was to get a paint stick and fill in as you have, so if I run into the same issue you describe I am sure I will be following suit,

Yup.
How do you pay for anything on eBay ?
I haven't bought anything in yrs.
Geez I don't remember my password.
When I want to purchase anything on Ebay I put in my bank card and tell it to not save to my account so it is only up long enough to purchase what I want and then gone, I also clear all cookies and other stuff on my PC so it does not hold a record anywhere I also have my PC set to not save bank cards or credit cards

Do you still use the Simplex ?
I'm thinking of giving mine to my grandson.
I do still have my simplex but do not use it since getting my Legend, The Simplex makes a great loaner detector, my Simplex I purchased after I picked up one for my Grandson, and he loves the simplex, I believe what you are thinking would be a great idea as far as letting your grandson have it, the simplex is a great first detector for a young person wanting to get into metal detecting, Hell I wish my first detector would have been a Simplex plus LOL

Oh boy that's for certain.
Wish my first was a Simplex.
Can't remember if it was a Sears or RadioShack.
Found a lot of Silver back in 74 though.

Thank You OllKoot.
Though I'm not sure how to erase cookies on my phone.

... some good discussion here, thanks. I have been considering the Deus 2 as I detect Pacific North West beaches which are rugged, lots of rocks... in short I am going to fall in. The detector I buy must be waterproof which the Deus 2 is but double the price of the Legend. From tests I have seen on YT the Legend will hit a gold ring at 10 to 12 inches ... the Deus 2 goes to 20 inches. The Deus 2 and its optional configurations to me just seems a bit confusing. The Legend ....very straight forward. Will the updates give the Legend any boost in depth? If not and I persuade myself to fork over more $$ then from what I have been seeing here to get something straight forward the Manticore comes quite simply compete without all of the confusing options of the Deus. (just like the French women ... complicated is the D2)

There are some good Videos that you should look up and watch before you make up your mind, one Dilek from Nokta just posted up and another video that comes to mind is put out by a gentleman named Loren something, Loren's last video was, will be quite eye opening and tells it straight

I have two Legends and like them vary vary much, and I will also tell you that your depth comparison that the Legend will only see 10-12 inches is way off I have personally dug some targets in Arizona that far exceeded your depth ranges by 4-5 inches, I have personally dug a few targets that are in the 14-16 inch depth range, I would love for someone to bring their Deus 2 to the areas I detect in for gold nuggets and show me the Deus 2 will hit a target at 20 inches, if they can do that I will eat my words and post it up on every forum and face book group there is, maybe on cotton candy cloud dirt with no mineralization but that is not the case where I detect, the deus will hit a target at 20 inches but not where I detect, I have also talked to other Legend users that are detecting low or no mineralized areas that say the same thing about the Legend that they are digging 20 inch deep targets, My response to those making that claim come visit me and tell me that with a smile on your face because it will never happen.

So in theory you want to dig 20” + holes in rugged terrain beaches with rocks. I have to ask have you been already digging that deep there consistently as I understand it the soil in that area is very mineralized and its hard for detectors to detect at depths of 2ft. Detector aside the physical requirements to do so continuously is also a feat in itself.
I have very loose sandy non mineralized soil easy to dig and no desire or capabilities for such a task. Thats more work than fun but thats just me.
Curious as to what you have been finding to do so and what you have been using

hah, hah, hah.... thanks oldkoot. Last month visiting some old friends at a place in Arizona near Quartzite ...if that is where you detect by chance, my hat's off to you. That is stark country and was colder than my turf up here in Canada when I was there. Happy Trails.....

Thanks DD I have been detecting the coast of British Columbia with the Anfibio. I ended up using Delta Mode exclusively on the salt and black sand beaches but in the end just got frustrated with the machine and all its complexities, sold it. Prior to that I had a Whites TDI which I now regret that I sold. That thing hit a target at 2 feet clear as a bell. It was a dock spike from the 1800s. I regret selling it. I just bought a SeaScope 4pi direct from England landed $650 bucks CDN ... ($480 us). I will sell that as I have since found out ...does not do gold coins or Spanish coins at depth) ... yikes. My territory is virgin (I live on a sailboat) gets away from "civilization". My area of interest is a late 1700s trading post group of islands (totally grown over now). Currency was Spanish coins and gold coins ... lasted 100 years or so then Sea Otter trade ended (extinct from over harvest). It is rugged, slippery, beaches sometime clear, sometimes full of black sands. But always beaches ...ashore is thick impenetrable forest). Good luck out there DD.

We always seem to sell the good old detectors we wish we still had lol.
Im not into complicated either but sounds like you are doing some real treasure hunting which requires some specialized equipment beyond your basic hobby detector.
Sounds exciting and beyond my capabilities right now. I would think the Anfibio would do the job better but don’t hunt in that type of soil or conditions.
I doubt my 6” coil is going to find any lost 1700’s gold treasure

Man that would be Awesome.
Living on the ocean. Going around detecting old Outposts and possibly pirate treasure.
I envy you.
Can you tell us a little about life on a boat ?
Expenses, safety, security, cooking cleaning ?
Fun times ?

Yep I also stupidly sold my TDI and am now trying to learn the Axiom, I wish I would have kept my TDI though, the Axiom is proving to be a great PI but I do miss my TDI, the ground I currently detect for gold nuggets is highly mineralized with a vary vary heavy layer of magnetite and heavy concentrations of salt most VLF will only see a target at around 4-6 inches tops and that includes the Legend, Equinox 600 and 800 and the Deus 1 and 2, that is where a Pi comes in and even then its a struggle at times

the Video was put out by a fella named Loren Lemcke quick google or you tube search should bring it up, great video by the way
Thanks all I could remember was Loren he makes some vary valid points in his most recent video that I watched, Dilek alluded to his video and thanked him for what he said

Water proof is a bigger selling point to me.
just wanted to give you a heads up there is a Whites GMX for sale on Detector prospector for sale, the GMX is identical to the whites 24K and Garrett 24K except it is the water proof version of both those detectors, If I was wanting a second VLF Gold detector I would have jumped on it,the GMX that is for sale comes with a 6 inch round coil which is perfect for Nugget detecting if you are interested I can get a link for you and PM you the link, the one for sale is in excellent condition

Hi Odan.... Well at the heart of it just as Captain Jack Sparrow said:

Wherever we want to go, we go. That’s what a ship is, you know. It’s not just a keel and hull and a deck and sails. That’s what a ship needs. But what a ship is… what the Black Pearl really is… is freedom.

Kids in college, wife of 25 yrs and I amicable went our ways I sold everything, caught a plane to the coast, hired a professional boat builder and we both went at building tough west coast welded, steel steel sail boat, fully insulated, suited to any ocean. Two years later. No car, no mortgage, became a sailing minimalist, rifle, fishing gear, pressure canner. Cost of lifestyle went from monthly thousands to a few hundred. 17 years later still sailing, providing for myself. Regret? I did not do it far sooner but once marriage, kids, etc... must finish that first. And then....
You will need to check out your country in terms of your questions because my country is different. Go to Cruisers Forum. In the forum is a section on living aboard and making a living while living aboard a boat.
I put some vids up for folks who have asked me about the life aboard: https://www.youtube.com/@SailBCNow There are 2 vids in there among others that talk about the Welded, folded steel construction method (toughest hulls afloat) Survival at Sea 1 & 2. Good luck out there Odanscoils.

Nice boat. When i was young I worked on and rigged sailboats. All fiberglass though. Catalina dealer. I did custom work on them as well, installed a few air conditioning systems as we are in a tropical climate and a/c is pretty much a necessity if you are going to live in. Im sure you don’t need a/c where you are but heat.
Alot don’t realize living on a boat isn’t easy either harder than a RV. Not my cup
of tea but really nice for others.
