    Much thanks to you and Laplander, i also found a 50 cal. machine gun shell. letters on the butt of it were S L 4 I think that means it came out of the St louis armory in the 40's. Not real sure. It was about 8 inches deep and had not been fired.

    I know the two quarters weren't 1916 but i think they were earlier than 1927. If i read correctly the mint recessed the date on the 1927 to 1930 and it is fairly plain, at least to me that the date area on these two arn't recessed. I haven't found many silver coins yet and it was truly a thrill...
