    carved cross

Amongst the bullets and large cents my brother in law was finding I rescued this carved cross. Here is an obverse and reverse pic of the cross with the top loop broken. The arm has evidence of bullet rings. Haven't seen any other carved cross shown before so I thought to share with you.

    Ring

Today I found a 14k White gold Wedding Band. But not with my metal detector. It was an eyeball find at work and an email went out to all the employees to find the owner. Will let you know if it is claimed tomorrow. Hopefully this will make the fourth wedding ring returned by me to the owner.

    What's With This Dime?

Then you do have an error coin. Less than 5% offcenter struck at K2, or 2 oclock. Very minimal value but the real thing.

    Blessed

On a lovely October day I was at a local park searching for toys in a tot lot when a young Lady approached me and asked if I could help her. She was with her hubby and daughter taking fall photo's to put a calendar together. She explained that while they were throwing leaves at each other for a...

    What's With This Dime?

If the reverse does not show the same degree of off center strike you have a common offset misalignment strike and not an off center strike. Value rises only if rim letters are partially missing and of high grade.

    Honor Returners

For six years our metal detecting club has honored our members with thanks for returning items back to their owners, next of kin or museums. Since 2006 our club has awarded 24 framed Certificates of Appreciation to our members. Of those returns 8 were class rings and 6 were wedding rings. We...

    Strange Penny found today

Another problem to be aware of is advertising from plating companies. I went to a trade show and a local metal plating company had a fish bowl filled with cents that were plated with various other metals making for a rainbow of cents handed out to show participants.

    Nice ring found today

Looks like a split band. Every ring I have found with a split band came from a volleyball court either sand or level grass picnic area. Nice one.

Day 2 of 2012, and I positively stomped day 1.

The pin looks like a Service Star Pin. With three stars would mean three imediate family members are in the Armed Services of the United States. Just look up service stars on the web. This was enacted by Congress since WWI.

    v3i frustrated

First thing is to plant a test garden with alternating depth and on edge coins. Then keep a notebook on what the signals look like graphed and sound like with different sweep speeds with different angles to the on edge coins. Then try again during spring deep ground moisture compared to dry...

    hanoverian rifled musket?

I rescued this Hanovarian (Rifled Musket Ball) but have only seen larger cal of this example found with two rings. This is a 50cal, one ring and a 1/2 ounce weight. Is this a pre-war bullet from the 1730's from (Saxony, pre Germany) and used only for hunting deer because of ti's accuracy? I...

    What improvements????

I miss hip mounting the main box, and adding an extention cable to the coil cord. Sure takes a lot of weight off the arm for long hunts, allowed for larger coil usage and let me extend the rod to the max for wide sweeps.

    V rated 8x6???

From what I have seen on the overseas websites, the manufacturer is making new "designed for" Vision SEF coils in white plastic to differentiate them from the black plastic that "works with" Vision but has the numbers skewed. Post when you receive yours and air test to see if the depth readings...

    Not cold enough yet

High today was 41-deg, Great time to go detecting. The first three inches of soil was frozen making rescue difficult. But rescue I did with three silver quarters, 1958-D/D Northwest, 1959-D, 1963-D/D North. Also a 1941-S Mercury Dime and four Wheaties, 45, 45-D, 53-D, 56-D. Last was a Illinois...

    SS plate

Found my second Social Security plate Saturday. My first had a Flying Eagle as the center picture. This one has a Capital Building in the center. Anyone know when these metal SS cards were issued? I know the family so it will be returned to them. It reads: Social Security Registered with the...
