Changing frequency up average the numbers?

I've never noticed this happening, but in "theory" it may be possible. Whenever there is ANY amount of EMI present, the detector function is compromised, even if it's a small amount. The idea behind frequency shift is to rid the detector of the interference so it can operate at peak...

Never listen to the other guys opinion…..

Sounds like the guy was hoping you would leave after hearing his input because he still wanted to hunt it some more himself. Good 2 silver hunt. All the 49 Rosies (P,D,S) are some of the less common dates. Nice!

Back to the cold and wind and holy moly this was fun!

Nice hunting. Loss of concentration is a sure way to miss coins. Previous guy probably just wanted to leave the site because he could't carry on a conversation and hunt at the same time.

Very impressive silver count. I count war nickels as silver,I really don't know why anyone wouldn't. Nice hunting.

    1800's Padlock And Key...What's The Odds ?

Jim, looking at it this way makes a very good case for the key belonging to the padlock. Your logic has convinced me. Wouldn't you like to know the story behind the lose.

    1800's Padlock And Key...What's The Odds ?

I hunted an 1850's one-room schoolhouse site this week and among the things I found was a small brass paddock. After looking at it today I began to wonder about a brass key that I found at the same site last May. The key was found about 40 yards away from padlock. It is a barrel type key and...

    Schoolhouse Debris Field

Thanks Ronstar.I will read and try to wrap my brain around it. It seems like a good method to get down pat and apply in the field to recover good targets in the trash laden sites.

Thanks for the input Draco. It has writing on the back but I can't make it out.

    Schoolhouse Debris Field

This week I went back to the field site of a one-room schoolhouse that I hunted last spring. While hunting it last spring it had the remnants of last years corn crop. This time it was in bean stubble that was cut this fall. The rows of stubble were very close together and were sticking up about...

    Dimes

Most of the copper pennies have been taken out of circulation and so far fewer of them are being lost. When i'm detecting ,some of the zincs hit high enough to dig, and some don't. It seems like the amount of deterioration along with ground condition causes them to vary in signal quality. This...

    Went Out Today & Got?

I hear you on the back ache. I have found that drinking lots of water several hours before, helps me with back issues.

    Finally got……

It's nice when you get on the right spot. a nice array of finds there. I especially like the two-ring horse tack piece. The five war nickels from one site is almost unheard of. Nice hunting.

    My 1st Fatty 1864

The Fatties don't "ring up" like the latter Indian Heads, which makes them a little harder to find. Nice recovery!

    Compadre finds a silver bucketlister

Although you see them posted often, a true sterling thimble is not very easy to find. I have several thimbles but have only found one that is marked sterling like yours. Congratulations on the bucket lister.

Another good spot the rest of the hunt

Nice handful of coins. Wherever the buttons were found must be an old area.

Dating a site by coin dates

I have found coins that outdate the site I'm hunting by almost 100 years. Many sites such as curb strips and such had fill dirt brought in from other older sites when they were constructed. I think this is how many of the "out of context" coin finds happen to be in an area that you wouldn't...
