No wooden nickels but finally have a “Thin Dime” toy coin from who knows when.

I also have one that I found in 1983. It would be nice to know the time period on these. My guess would be late 50's to mid 60's but that's just a guess. Nice find.

Wish I Knew What It Was Attached To

Nice vintage name plate. It could have been attached to a number of items. I have seen a few older wooden tool boxes or machinist tool boxes with these type of plates. Good luck on your search for a relative.

Well that didnt work on pennies…..

I totally agree and it's worth restating that anything wet (even water) is never a good idea. I use the toothpick method along with Andre pencils while the coin is under a standing magnifier glass. This can be a long drawn out process which takes a lot of time and practice but can have positive...

Well that didnt work on pennies…..

Ronstar,I never use the vinegar and salt recipe on copper coins as it will always make them worse. When I use it on nickels it is usually on the no date Buffalos and it will usually bring up a readable date. I will use it on V nickels and Jefferson nickels "if" they are crusted to the point that...

    F75 stays

Well said Ronk. The F75 is very user friendly and has about any option that you need when encountering the different hunting conditions. That being said, sometimes when hunting the farm fields with my F75, it seems to lose some depth compared to when i'm hunting in the grass or the woods...

Large Cents at 1800's Potter Shop

Last Friday I drove to the area of a one-room schoolhouse site that was on an 1865 map. Comparing the old map with a present day aerial view showed that the road was no longer there. After talking with the land owner I was informed that there was still an access lane that could be walked to get...

Old park pops out a keeper!

It cleaned up nice with the vinegar/salt treatment. It's always a guess if the solution will help or hurt. Did you let it soak until the solution turned blue or did you take it out early? Nice looking coin!

Where Are The New Fisher Models ?

If they are still making detectors, that means they are still in the game. On the other hand if they were to redesign and produce a new type of detector such as multi frequency, it would be a big undertaking. I am still hopeful.

F75 Factory Reset After Coil Change ?

When the coil is changed on the F75 (or any detector) do you need to do a factory reset ? I see no place in the manual where this is brought up. I have always done this after every coil change but I am not quite sure where I picked up this habit. Does anyone have a technical explanation as to...

    Morgan dollar find! shield nickel!

Any silver dollar is a rare find. Very nice. I also like the Double Gilt button.

    MGC coils

The Fisher concentric 6.5 (football) coil is also heavier than the stock coil.

FA Process Made The Difference At School Site

I researched a one-room schoolhouse last year that was on the 1863 map. When I visited the site last December, it had the heavy remains of last seasons corn crop so I decided to hold off hunting it hoping the farmer would rotate his field to beans this year. After getting permission to hunt it...

    The D and a key.

The suspender clip, key, and button are all nice finds. Many times the relics make the hunt a success more than the coins do.

    F75 Stat vs CL mode

The F75 manual states: "When the CL process is selected, the response characteristics of the Motion All Metal Mode are also modified; these characteristics include less noise and a slower response speed. In many situations, you may prefer to do cache locating in the Motion All Metal Mode after...

F75 stock coil vs 9.5x5.5 dd

The small football shaped coil is great for woods hunting. The one I use pinpoints very close to the nose of the coil instead of near the middle like my other F75 coils.

Another run at the old city park

The coins just keep coming out of some of the worked over areas due to the newer models. Nice hunt.

    Finally I got back out!!!!

It's nice to find a deep one once in a while to confirm that the detector and your hunting methods are doing well.

    back up plan paid off

A productive day. good call on the backup plan. When i'm on a detecting road trip I always have a plan A,B,and C. It has paid off many times. Nice find on the silver Rosie.

    DST in reverse

The DST 9.0 verses 9.1 has been debated for years. Fisher has denied the controversy in the past and they have stated that the manual is correct. I believe the best thing to do is exactly as you have done, and do some testing to decide for yourself what is "off" or "on" with your own machine...

Still working on the 1900's children's playground...

Good hunting. When I use a hunting process that is very tedious,I too wear out mentally sooner than when hunting with other "normal" techniques. That's when it pays to rehunt the same area on another day to recover any missed deep and iffy signals. Looking forward to another updated post on...
