First Outing Of The Year At A New Site

Old Longhair

Got out for a couple of hours today with the PRO at a site I've been trying to get permission to hunt for a few years. It wasn't as productive as I'd hoped, but I'm not nearly finished there, I'm actually just getting started. According to old maps there was a home there, but it's been nothing but a farm field for over 150 years. I haven't located the exact area that the home stood yet, which is why I say that I'm just getting started. I did do a large grid search of a part of the area I expect to find the original home site, but so far all I've found was one plain flat button back-marked "Robinson Jones & Co." The shank is intact and not even deformed, and there is still some gilt remaining. The research I've done states that the company existed from 1828 to 1836.

I'll get back there to grid another section sometime within the next week. I have to hurry because the window of opportunity is rapidly closing now that fields are being fit and planted.

That is a nice find and enough to get you motivated…..
Hopefully you will be able to locate that old house site.
I searched around and old house site a couple years ago that still has the rock chimney standing. I was there for several hours and my only worthwhile find was a nice Maryland button.
I decided to give it another try and was amazed at the amount of old coins and a few other interesting items that I started finding… to be honest, if I had not found that nice button, I may not have gone back.
It is one of most productive old house sites I have ever detected at.
Never know what you may find next time. I hope a lot!!
Good luck!!🤞🤞
