A Generous School-Yard Today + Ring #8

The North Saskatchewan River remains high due to spring runoff from the mountains. So, with my wifey out of town I had the day to myself. I returned to a school which I visited recently. Go figure, I got a signal at 53 (same as pull-tab) with double bleeps. The audio sounded a bit softer then a typical pull-tab so I dug it. Out came a thin wire gold ring. I was absolutely sure it was gold, until I ran a magnet over it. Well.....that was disappointing. Oh well, I did good on the clad. I'm inching towards my yearly purchase of a gold coin or nugget.

Wow!!! You aren’t sitting around with your feet up in retirement. You are a vortex with the Vortex. I was just paging through one of my books by Charles Garrett. It appears if he was still with us he would include a chapter on the Vortex in his next book.

Thanks......it's always been my dream when I retire to spend lots of time metal detecting and prospecting. I am blessed to have the North Saskatchewan River run right through downtown Edmonton. It's been producing flour gold for nearly 200 years. As many rivers do, it created trade with the native population. Trade posts were set up and cities were created and grew. Once a person learns his metal detector to the point where you can guess with a good probability of what's underneath the coil, not the other way around, good things happen. One and two dollar coins add up quickly. Digging copper pennies allows the odd silver coin and jewelry to pop up with those ID numbers. Iffy signals cost you nothing to dig. Surprises happen. Deep iffy signals ID are most times different then shallow ones of a same target. It's in your advantage to use the audio, ID numbers and different pixels showing up on the bar gragh(s) to see the higher IDs showing up periodically. I have noticed that copper pennies tend to read with a slightly higher ID number, possibly due to the oxides forming around the coin, rendering it a larger target. That's good stuff to learn, as it usually is not in the detector's manual.

Good luck. School yards are my favorite places to dig targets. Different zones are loaded with good targets. After a while, you just know where the good targets get concentrated. And as you have shown, silver, gold and other surprises show up. I remember many years ago digging up a silver dollar at a recent school for younger kids. I bet that silver dollar was a "show and tell" item that got lost. You just never know.
