Can Garrett Detectors even COMPETE with the Latest & Greatest?????

How would you know if Garrett is doing well or not? Only somone privy to their books could come out with a statement like that. I remember not to long ago that Garrett was actually hiring new people for some new positions. Hiring.......not laying off. Think about that for a minute. Just like any manufacturer, Garrett has had some great winners and some not so great winners. There has not been any new technology utilized in the manufacturing of metal detectors for some time. Since some of the older patents have expired, there has been a lot of recycled technology introduced in various companies including Garrett. Garret has always (and even today) invested heavily in research and development. That's one of the reasons that they have been around for sixty years. Please, give them some slack. When they are ready, they will probably release some new product. Why they bought out Whites......I don't know, but I bet they know. Why not ask them if it was a total waste of investment instead of pretending that you know better then them for their business investments. Just remember.....Tesoro is dead, Whites is sort of dead, Fisher hasn't had a successful release in how long? The list of the biggest manufacturers is getting smaller.

It says that parts, labor, shipping, and utilities have caused an increase in prices, just like pretty well everything else on the global stage. So, eventually the price is passed on to a consumer.

Then they want Big $$$$ for the Axiom.
Well, it's a well-designed pulse induction metal detector. If you compare it to other pulse induction technology available in the gold prospecting arena, you will soon discover machines costing 3 times as much. Are they 3 x better? Probably not.

GTI 2500 still available?
Yes, because people are still buying it. There is a demand for it. It has the imaging feature, although not perfect, still allows one to leave a lot of junk in the ground. And....... it is also used in combination with the Eagle Eye (2 box detector)

Par with what Detectors are out there today for a whole lot LESS!!!
Yes! Garrett started that style of sales marketing with the original ACE Series many years ago. They sold technology available on other competitor machines for half the price and gained a substantial market share. It turned out to be a very smart move.

My line of work requires "evidence based practice," not a lot of anecdotal opinions. Lives depend on it. I just wanted to clarify some information you brought forward. There are a lot of metal detectors available at various prices. Pick one that is a good fit for you. Metal detecting is a hobby, and meant to be enjoyed. I hope you have a good, productive 2024 silverseeker 2.

Admittedly, I've never used a 2500, but I have used a GTI 1500. Compared to other machines out there today, it had a slow recovery speed and was weighed down by 8 AA batteries. I do like the imaging/sizing feature and think Garrett could do something cool with an updated version. But if the 1500 is anything like the 2500, it's just not worth $1k today, which is why I find it so odd that Garrett still sells it (at least, at that price -- maybe I'd take a chance on one for fun if Garrett cut prices on older models like Fisher did with the F75).

The GTI 2500 has a very deep true all metal mode, which the gti 1500 lacks. Who is spending 1K on the GTI 2500? Apparently they are selling. They have new ones selling way up here where I live. If they were't moving stock, I am sure Garrett would discontinue that line. Only a very small percentage of metal detector users actually post on internet forums. Most people who purchase a detector go about their business using it and NOT posting at all on forums. And another group of people who purchase a metal detector use it a few times, then it sits in a closet. But, using the double-box eagle eye and utilizing the imaging (only available on Garretts I believe) are factors contributing to sales.

It would be a sad day if the remaining few US metal detector manufacturers went out of business and we had to rely on foreign based manufacturers. Costs, warranties, accessories would get very expensive and time consuming. Below is some information on the Garrett Eagle Eye unit.

I agree, it was sad to watch Tesoro and White's close up shop. That's exactly why I hope whatever Garrett's next machine is really breaks new ground and turns some heads. It seems like the pieces are there, especially with some White's tech at their disposal. They just need to match it with the resources necessary to develop and market a new machine.

I've always wondered why Motorola never got into detectors.

Actually and technically they did, so to speak.. The original whites eagle blue box and eagle II ran Motorola processors in them. When the black box eagles II and sl 90.5 came out whites had switched to Hitachi processors. This info came directly from my buddy who was the whites distributor in NW ohio. His opinion was the blue box eagles were considerably better then the black box units. I had two blue box eagles and I can attest they were exceptionally good for there time period.
