I'm haveing a problem discriminating out zinc pennys. When i notch them out and only leave nickles and high coins to hunt i still end up digging them when they come up on high coin. Is there something wrong with my machine? I have a CZ70 pro

Zinc pennies pre 83 and old crusted wheaties can come up as high coin and have two shoeboxes filled with these crusted wheaties usually deep..Take a few recent zinc pennies and see where they come up on your unit and if they come in high coin your unit needs to be adjusted as they should come in zinc penny...

Ahh that explains it. Zincs from pre 83 I got it now thanks dan i never bothered to check the dates from any of them. I just threw them in my bag and kept hunting. i still get zincs that fall into the zinc zone as well.

Dirt Lizard you do realize those big honker gold class rings come in as zinc cents!! I dig zinc penny's for this reason!! I know it ain't fun digging a stinking Zincoln but hey you never know if your missing a big gold ring!!

LOL not only do big gold rings ring in as zinc's but 10 dollar gold pieces do also. My 1893CC was suposed to be a zinc!!!

I'll be hunting a couple of soccer fields this week. I'll hunt everything open but iron.

Half way through 1982 the US mint changed to the copper coated zinc pennys. They made both copper & zinc that year.
