Youtube MX5 videos

There are currently 9 videos on Youtube pertaining to the MX5 detector . Go to Youtube then type in MX5 metaldetector .

True..but none of them really show the unit in action very well. I like the vids dirtfisher aka bill_s does vids on detectors. When hes done its almost like you have used the machine yourself. Just my opinion:)

This is true . Thanks for telling me about bill-s , I'll have to check his videos out . Hopefully he does one on this unit . Happy New Year .

He said he was going to as soon as he gets his new mx5 back from whites (tone ID issue). so within the next week or so. His initial impressions where very favorable but will be interesting to see when he puts it through its paces.

.........;o) I for sure will do some videos. I am hoping I get the detector back from Whites real soon. Then the ground has to thaw.....;o(

I will have the 6x10, 5.3 and the stock coil to test with for now. I am trying to find a good deal on a D2 or 10x12 SEF. Kellyco does not have the 10x12 in stock. From what little testing I did before I sent the detector back it was not too bad. Depth was pretty good too. I like all the features. I didnt really care for the threshold, it was not very smooth, kind of staticy if thats a word but that may have had something to do with the audio issue. But I will do some air tests with different targets and if I can get out at all I will.

My deepest coin so far was an indian head at 9" good signal and good numbers. What im finding using sef 10x12 coil on the mx5 is going over my old hunting spots is im hitting on all the coins and goodies that were masked by my other detectors. Im finding lots of trash in the holes with the goods. That is the most impressive part. And for a $500 detector it goes darn deep!! Plus if ya wanna hunt in the rain you can. I like the style better than the mxt v3i Its lower profile makes it easier to pack less likely to damage and it lighter and longer for us tall guys. Its a joy to use for sure. Performance wise. Well all i can say is if you like the mxtpro you will love the mx5! Thats why im a fan. I have always been a die hard mxt fan. So it would take a really special detector to take an mxt or mxtpro's place. And i know people dont believe me but my friend and i compared the mx5 to the v3i during some hunting and the mx5 did better. Mostly i believe is due to masking. Mx5 seems to be lightening fast. Im sure other factors come into play. Im not a rookie so when we compare targets we dont just wave a coil over it and say nope cant pick it up. We actually try. And after some tweaking some targets came to life with v3i. But some did not. For the mx5 no tweaking was needed that my friends is the fun part!!! Im not a tweaker never have been but i have buckets of silver and gold to prove tweaking isnt needed anyway. Just my two cents ;).

I just bought a new D2 from Oregon Greg so I will have that coil to test also. I may call Whites on Monday to see if they have shipped my detector back to me yet.

Hello Bill_S,
thank you for the effort. I just finished watching your "Detecting with a Fisher F5 metal detector" video. I was very impressed. The VDIs looked stable and you found many coins at a good depth. Now the MX5 got another competitor. But wait, there is also the AT Pro... I'm searching for a replacement for my Deus.

Your videos are awesome, but in some cases it would be also very interesting to see you walking over a target that is not worth the digging and hear signals that you consider as "bad". It would give us a bigger overall picture of how a detector behaves. But even without, your videos are great and a joy to watch. It's pure detecting. I could watch it for hours :).

Thanks!

Ok, the next (first) video I do with the MX5 I will dig all sorts of targets, trash and all.....;o)

I think you misunderstood me. I don't want you to change anything. It is perfect, how it is. I was talking about showing us from time to time an additional example of a bad signal. A target that is trash in your opinion and not worth the digging. You could occasionally just swing the coil, say "it sounds like trash to me" and go to the next target. Thats all. No need to dig it out. :)

Maybe its just me, but I end up wanting every detector Bill_S does a test video on. :clapping:
You certainly do a great job Bill and a great service for those trying to decide which detector to buy.
Now, I'm anxious to watch you test the MX5. It's probably a good thing that I can't afford another one after buying the Etrac.

Bill is doing a fantastic job. At this moment I would go for the AT Pro, but my favorite would be the Fisher CZ3D (with an old s/n). I only don't like his pin pointer. Sometimes it makes noises even if nothing is there. I always wonder, how good he manages to separate the false signals.

Bill I have to agree with these guys. I really enjoy your videos and I've learned a lot from them. I can't wait for your next video! Thanks for all you do!

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I've been detecting for about 8 years on and off, but now that I'm retired I plan on getting serious and doing a lot more. I really enjoy reading your comments as I am just a novice. I am in the process of up grading to a new detector. and have been following the new MX5. I don't know much about Whites, but from what I read they look to be very good machines. I really like the ability to search wet sand, but my main use will be land use (I live in Maryland). I am looking for a detector that gets a dime at 8 inches and a quarter at 10. Like many of you I need to see that in ground video before I pull the trigger. The good thing is it's 5 degrees outside so I won't need it for couple more months. Everyone I really appreciate all the input you give to this great hobby, so thanks

Hello Pepa, welcome!

It would be great, if Bill could compare the MX5 to the AT Pro, or the E-Trac for example.
I watched his "AT Pro vs E-Trac on iffy signals" video yesterday and was a little bit dissapointed with the performance of the AT Pro. I mean particularly the scratchy signals and the very poor pinpoint function. I ask myself if activated notch, could be the reason for the scratchy signals (when the VDI is pretty close to the border of the window). But I'm not sure. Anyhow it would be great to see the MX5 finaly in action (on video). All we hear are storys about great performance, but for some reason no one is willing to take a video from it, which is pretty strange...

More people have got mad over that video than any other I have made......;o) I think you are right. When you use notches especially like I was the signal is very scratchy sounding especially on low conductor targets in the nickel range. Most people I think miss the whole point of the video. I found the worse signals I could with the Etrac then compared the AT Pro to it. I would expect the Etrac to be better just like I would expect it to be better than the MX5. I have to keep in mind when I finally get the MX5 back and compare it to other detectors that it is not a $1500 detector.....;o)

I called Whites yesterday but the repair guy was out and I am not sure they have even shipped my detector back yet. It has been 9 days since they got it. Seems a little bit longer than what it usually takes. Who knows, it will eventually show up. I am ready to do some tests. I will have the stock coil, D2, 6x10, and a 5.3 to test with. I will do some in ground tests as long as the weather cooperates. It is supposed to be in the 50's this weekend. Maybe the detector will show up unexpectedly.....;o)

Pepa, 10 inches on a quarter may be cutting it close but it may be able to do it with the D2 coil. I have some pretty mild ground. I will try that test for you. I will post a new thread when I get the detector back.

If someone compares 2 detectors, the price would be the last thing I care about. All I want to see is the difference in performance. Both machines are doing the same thing. If the Etrac is better, then I want to know how close is the "cheaper" detector in comparison to it. If someone is not interested, then he should avoid such "controversy" videos and buy the most expensive machine. It would be automatically the best detector, because there is nothing you can compare it to...
Bill, please don't listen to these comments and do what you think is right.
