Your Tesoro metal detector, plus research equals success...............

Many people buy a Tesoro metal detector with hopes of finding lots of treasure...they head for the local school or park. Generally, they may spend months finding penneys and clad coins, maybe a ring on occasion. Eventually many will grow tired of the same old thing, some become bored just hunting these sites. Where do you go from here...put the metal detector in the closet and forget about it or move forward to better sites? I might mention that there is a silver lining in this, you are now familiar with your Tesoro metal detector...you are indeed ready to move on to better sites.
There is not enough space here at the moment to cover everything on how and where to find good sites for finding good things...I will give a few hints that should get you started. I might add that I am by no means an expert, there are many on this Forum with more experience and knowledge, but I do want to contribute what little knowledge that I have on this subject.
Swimming pools are some of the best sites to find rings. The grass area around the pools where people place a towel to lay on is where you should look first. The best pools are the older pools that are in neighborhoods or pools owned by organizations like the YMCA. The best time to hunt is on Sunday mornings when most pools are closed. You should have a written liability release form with you when you ask permission to hunt at the swimming pool. Design your release of liability form where both parties sign it, this will serve as written permission to hunt at the swimming pool. You might offer to clean up the area of litter, might even offer to cut the grass if they will give you permission to hunt. I have found that city owned public pools are very difficult if not impossible to attain permission to hunt. Also, old city maps will provide you with locations of swimming pools that are no longer in operation.
Many old gas stations with grass around them are also good sites to hunt with a metal detector.
High school football stadiums that have a hill outside the gate are good places to look for coins. People sit on the hill to watch the game, coins fall out of their pockets.
One of the best sources of information of good sites to hunt with a metal detector would be from old folks that just want to talk to someone. Old folks attending your Church are a valuable source of information...they are often lonely because no one want to spend any time with them. They can tell you where old picnic sites could be located, they may even tell you where the old lover's lane is located. I was talking with some old folks one day and was shocked when they told me that the flower shop up the road was once a dance hall...very few people knew this!
Folks, this should get you started on the road of finding some good sites to hunt. Please remember to always ask permission to hunt, and don't forget to fill you holes. Say, many folks are afraid to knock on the door and ask permission...why be afraid, the worst they can do is say "no" to you, and everytime someone says "no" you are one step closer to someone saying "yes."
My true love is relic hunting on the ranches down here in South Texas, but I have given tips on finding sites to coin hunting because most folks live in the city, not out on a ranch. You can find many sites within a few minutes of your home in the city. At a future time, I will try to give some tips of how to research sites outside a city. Please have a great day! The asking permission is the hardest thing for me to do. I'll just sit and dream, rather than ask.
