Your favorite coil for heavy trash area detecting ???

St Bernard

New member
What do you consider the best coil for heavy trash area detecting and why with your E-trac? There are quite a few manufactures of coils for the E-Trac and many of them say the one they make are the best coils for the E-Trac. I think people who have used various makes of coils make the best decisions from there experience using the coils they use. Your feedback is appreciated. Thanks

The only small coils I have for the E-Trac are both made by Sun Ray... The Stealth X-5 and Stealth X-8...

I have a silver dime in the back yard at 8" deep which the X-5 can detect with Sens of Auto +3 (usually settles at 19) with the coil 2" above the ground... This small coil goes deep and slices through the trash very well...

I can run the Sens hotter, and usually do, with this coil and encounter minimal chatter...

I'm not familiar with other coil manufactures, and chances are I never will be as the X-5 and the X-8 are all I need...

The small coils are all very similar in performance.
I have used 6" from two different manufacturers , Coiltek and Detech as well as the X5.
My choice is the Excellerator 4.5 x 7 because of the 'coverage';) and shape.
You have to watch the VDI on higher channels however.

I have an X5 for really high trash areas, but in general, most of the yards of old homes aren't that trashy.

I have a six inch Coiltek, and the Sunray X-8. Both work well, but right now I am favoring the X-8. Might change my mind next time I switch them out, though.

I love the x-5. I also love the NEL sharpshooter. I like to go over areas with both. They always seem to find what the other missed.

my favorite coil, bar none, is the 6" EQ2....... Have the 6x8 detech (?) but have only used it twice so I can't really coment on it just because I really never have used it? Also have the Nel SS and it's my "curbstrip" coil.

If you might be interested in the 6x8....let me know as I don't use it so it's not doing me any good...........

I use the excellerator 6" DD. Affordable, decent depth, good separation, and with no openings, it tends not to get hung up in stubble.

I love my SEF 6x8 and primarily use it when I want a smaller coil. It is as deep as my pro coil.

My excellerator 6" is also a great coil and I use it when it gets really bad. It is as deep as my 6x8.

The 5" Sunray Stealth is a good coil, but I don't have a lower shaft on it, so it is not used often.

One of my buddies has the Sunray X-8 and he loves it.

Your choice really comes down to personal preference.

coiltec 10x5 is my go to coil
