What is your favorite beach coil for the Sovergn GT.

Is it ......

The WOT coil
The Coil Tech coils?
or the Sun Ray coils?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

S-12 is my favorite. I can't use it on every beach because of the EMI. After that I would say the stock 10". I tried the big 15x12 SEF. Too big for me. I have the smaller SEF what is it a 10x12? I will try it some day. But for me the S-12 does me well.

The 10 x 12 SEF is a nice and light , but I would rather have the 12 x 15 for coverage ......Throw a Swingy Thingy on and you don't notice the weight of either one .....You don't have to worry much about overlapping with the 12 x 15 unless you are walking WAY too fast .....Jim

The 15x12 went deeper in the sand for me than the 10" Tornado, but it wouldn't go as deep as the Tornado on land in my soil. The 12x10 appears deeper on land for me so far than the Tornado but I don't know yet if it's as deep as the 15x12 in the sand. For sure the 15x12 gives great coverage in the sand. Too big for me in the water with too much drag. If you water hunt then the 12x10. If you dry sand hunt then I'd opt for the 15x12. The 15x12 does have awesome coverage but the 12x10 is still a big improvement in that respect in the sand for me over the stock 10" coil.

Completely dry sand I use the 15" WOT on my Sov GT, in wet sand, but not in water more than an inch or so I use the S-12. When hunting is trashy beach camp grounds I will switch over to the 6" BBS to get better separation from the huge amount of aluminum slaw found around campfires. If I'm in water deeper, than 1" or for the surf I switch over to one of my Excals.

ok heres my question, why would you want a larger coil in the dry sand when there in the dry sand is mostly fresh drops in the summer months while the visitors are on the beach?? why not a larger one for the surf??

Sunray S-12 ............... light weight..........Deep........Good ground coverage.......affordable .................... Also The stock coils do a real good job to

I have the Tornado 8" & 10", the S-12, the 10 x 12 SEF, and the WOT. I like the WOT for coverage and depth, but it's a tad heavy (and I don't hip mount). The 8" is good on iron laden beaches, but too small in general. The 10" Tornado hits well, but I prefer either the S-12 or 10 x 12 SEF for most of my beach/shallow water hunting.

This is all my opinion and what seems works for me, your experiences may be different.
The 15" WOT covers much more area so it is faster with its bigger foot print IMO. The dry sand I hunt is 65,000 acres that have had campers on them for over a 75 years (Pismo Beach CA) so there is a lot of stuff to find any time. The 15" WOT is a bear to control in the surf and in wet sand I also found it is harder to pin point with due to the larger Halo effect. The S-12 gives me the depth in wet sand and accurate pin pointing, but falses more in the salt water than the BBS coil does in the water at the same settings. The BBS coil on my Excal is much easer to handle in the surf than any of the others IMO.

Everyone has their own reasons for why they use various coils ....My reasoning behind using the larger 12 x 15 coil on land is the fact that I can walk faster and don't have to worry about overlapping as much when I do ......The 12 x 15 covers an area quickly ...I have a lot of compettition where I hunt ....Ya snooze , ya loose !!..... You have to be "Johnny on the spot " here in NY or you don't get the target !!.... The smaller coil in the surf is much easier to use and traditionally has a better pinpont which makes a harder recovery in water, much easier ....This is what I have found, but YMMV ......Jim
