You tell me if the poison ivy was worth.....

Well, this weekend has proved to be the best two days of my mding life. I've been mding for over 20 yrs, I have always wanted to find some US history.... well I finally have.
First let me tell you I am now covered from head to toe with poison ivy rash.. thats ok...
I have been hunting in se oklahoma near the washita river where an older gentle man told me the calvary was said to have crossed many times.. after looking for several days and not finding nothing, i found a clear spot with alot of river sand. And the first signal i hit was a large eagle button with a D in the shield.:surprised: The back says scovills waterbury. I then found some lead colored buttons that look like they were poured from a mold.
Then I found a small cuff flat button with a eagle and a shield.:yikes: The back says United***States***. And during all of the excitement I realized there was poison ivy and sumac everywhere... my kryptonite....:stretcher:
After going home and starting to itch I couldn't stand it. I had to go back. Im glad I did. The first signal of the day was a small cuff button just like the Eagle with the shield D. After a few minutes another familar tone and a large flat button with a eagle over the U.S symbol and looks like a wreath below that. On the back of it said United***States***.:bouncy: I failed to mention the first day around the first two buttons i found what was left of a pocket watch. Several large round balls and a few square head nails. Then my last good tone of the day got interupted by 4 buttons but not the kind I was lookin for:unsure:..... after that i decided it was time to go home.
I appologize for the poor quality of the pictures and am waiting for my high res. to get emailed to me so i can post them.
If anyone knows the age and possible value of these I would be most appreciative. These are my first older military buttons and i am hooked, i will be going back as soon as the rain stops.....rattle snake or not....:detecting:

WOW Nice finds I would say was worth it although you may not think so in a couple days

You got you some good finds there. Looks like you got a good potential site for further study. On a side note, and yes I know this sounds insane, but doctor your poison ivy with just pure salt. Leave the salt on until it cakes up,wash off with water and reapply. You should start seeing results. I speak unfortuately from much experince. Txquest

Those are some real nice finds . And a big rattle snake too.

This stuff works even after the rash appears.

yeah the snake about made me have two movements. A physical movement and a bowel movement. lol i'll have to try that salt idea luckily i had some prednizone to take. Word was when the union soldiers left Ft Was hita they came thru this mans land. All told over 200+ soldiers and civilians. That streched for over a mile.

Gh,

Thanks for posting your finds - great old relics.
You talking to old timers really paid of .
I dont know much about poison ivy but I'd say snake bite could be worse.
Congratulations...I hope there is more for you to find at that spot.

Great finds! You have a great site there. Hit it hard and hit the rattlesnakes even harder

Cool hunt GH, Bummer about the rash, guess that is just part of the price. I have only 1 military button and I like it.

Are you gonna eat the snake?

lol no I believe God cursed them for a reason. I'm sure the buzzards had a feast that tasted "just like chicken".
I wished i could find out how old that small flat button with the shield to the left.

Congrats on the great finds! I hate poision Ivy. I do feel your pain, Beale.

Try "you feel his "ITCH"" :crylol: :clapping: Been there, done that. Worst ever though. Down in Panama. Grabbed the trunk of a black palm by accident when I slipped on a hillside.. THAT was pain. Like grabbing a hedgehog with poisoned spines.

TecNU soap for you. Wash all clothing at the laundromat with TecNU also--lots of it, and throw in some Murphys Oil soap for good measure. Beware in handling your detector--the coil will likely have the oils on it too. Wear rubber gloves and wash it good.

Be careful in toughing your face/eyes or other body parts that might be problematic if the rash starts there too. Face/eyes may require a doctor visit depending on severity.
