...'cause it just might get developed! yeah, that's the case here in central va. too. i live near a minor battlefield, and have made some good finds on the private land surrounding it. sure enough, my old buddy d2 - ain't heard from him in a while - told me 2 years ago i should pound the place 'cause it just might be developed into a housing complex. i didn't think so at the time. well, sure enough, plans are being made for an additional 216 houses to be built there! oh man.

none of us can stop urban sprawl, especially when big money backs it up. it's gonna be a sad thing to see my old huntin' grounds disapear into a sea of houses. so, i told frank this morning on the way to our hunt the second a dozer hits the ground we'll be hittin' it hard! it's a shame, but i reckon it's inevitable. thanks for reading, and hh!

I know what your talking about, three of my prime spots are now houses.Though, sometimes, its the only time you can get permission to hunt certain spots.I know of a virgin Yankee camp but the land owner won't let a soul on the property to detect, maybe one day it will be sold and the door will open?
Thanks for the post.

Know what you mean GG; same here in Northern VA - theyd sell their family cemetary around here to put up a housing dev or strip mall. Best of luck with your spot.

Sad to say boys, but same thing happening here in Western MA. Some of my old hunting spots dating to Revolutionary war era have been gobbled up by one town as watershed area. Sadder yet is the fact that some of the land is so far from a water source that you could die of thirst before you found water. I have found large cents in the past at these spots, also older musket balls, and some other trinkets. Urban sprawl is definately a problem, and it is not uncommon for the family farm of 100-300 acres to be subdivided. Some farms having been in families for hundreds of years. Loss of farm revenue and the ever increase of taxes is killing the farmers, not to mention dairy farmers losing money on every gallon of milk they sell. Whats happening to America ? Way too many freebies for people who have never put a dime into society or even lifted a finger to earn a living. While the working middle class are struggling to make ends meet. Sorry for venting like this, but real changes should be made in this country, and not just a bunch of lip service, or empty promises. So, What does the new administration do ? They give out even more freebies to the people who didn't earn them. And we the working class of America are paying the way. I am not speaking about every situation as there are people who truly need help and aid. I am talking about those who make a living off of not making a living. I am sorry if I offended anyone, but if you've been doing your part, then this shouldn't bother you. God Blessed America and people took advantage of it. I still love America, it's still (in my opinion) the best in the world. And I enjoy all of the freedoms that I still have left. Ron :usaflag::detecting::minelab:

I hate it when I am right. And Ronaldj2 said it as well as I have ever heard it said...d2

Yes and time is money. I amazed how fast they can move on some things these days. Its like in two months if I havent traversed the whole county there is major changes going on. Im trying to keep a list now of these develpment sites, cause I can forget easily that I mean to get over there. I am in upstate NY where all the Marcellus Shale gas wells will be going up (2-4000 predicted) I know they immediately level two or three acres, great if you can get in there, but some of these will be going into remote sites. I know one might be dug right on top of a cellar hole I work. And they dont take their time about it once they start. I am concerned with the 100 of thousands of acres whose mineral/ gas rites etc will be turned over to these companies. Im not sure they're going to allow, in the legal sense, MD even well away from the actual well sites.

I dont know why all those crazy symbols just appeared when I wrote up state NY, it wasnt in my original, is it because I used a hyphen ?
