You might be a redneck...

you have to place a cigarette lighter under your headset plug to receive a threshold tone on your detector and then use duct tape to hold it all in place!!!

Placing the lighter in the correct spot:

Check to see if the tone can be heard in the headset:

Once the threshold tone can be heard tape that sucker up!!!

And that is the rest of the story!!!

been having to rig my headphone plug connection for the last couple of months to the back end of my detector with a cigarette lighter and duct tape (got the idea from Bubba) 'cause there's a short somewhere in the wiring plug connection :rage: I called the manufacturer of my Gray Ghost headphones "DetectorPro" in New York and they said to go ahead and send in my phones. I've already had them for nearly two years and am glad they have a "lifetime warrany" They will either fix the problem or give me a new set of headphones  I just have to find the time to send them in ;) Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas :clapping:

excercise I get is walking up and down those hills in the woods when I detect usually on the weekends :detecting: but still that's not enough excercise according to my doctor to get in shape in my situation. However, I don't have to go back to work until next Tuesday so I plan on doing some serious detecting until that time. As much as I enjoy detecting as a hobby, if I were retired, I believe I would try and go everyday not just on the weekends. I think my doctor would be satisfied with that.

... hopefully you've tested it with another set of headphones in your machine.

Initially I thought it was in the receptacle Ed. After I purchased a new receptacle from Whites and installed it myself, I plugged in my Gray Ghost phones hoping that solved the problem but it didn't. I could giggle the headphone plug flexible cable connection shown in the picture below and the threshold sound would go on and off. I knew if I could somehow stationary the headphone plug in place using a cigarette lighter, I could temporary use the phones while detecting thus coming up with the duct tape idea.

Later on I tested Lawrences phones in and bingo, no problem. His worked fine in my detector but when I plugged my set in his, no sound at all so I knew it had to be the Gray Ghost phones

The hunt we were on really wore me out because I was out of shape. My calf muscles hurt for nearly a week, but I'm ready to go again.Looks like where you found the collar brass might be a good place to cover.
