You may want to start digging those low VDI numbers?

I learned a lesson today about digging those low VDI numbers. I went out hunting this morning with a friend as we usually do on Wednesday's. We were hunting in a couple of the local parks and not having much luck other then a pouch full of modern coins. Boy was it hot! Mid 90's but felt like 100+ degrees. We were actually headed home when we decided to stop by another small park that was on our way home just for one more try to find a keeper. I went directly to the volley ball court as they sometimes yield a ring. They are usually very clean with no hits what so ever. I was pretty tuckered out from the heat and volley ball courts are even hotter with the sand but I still wanted to check it out. I went for a ways and got what turned out to be my only hit in that court. The VDI reading was 3. I never dig a 3 anymore as it is always a small piece of foil of some kind. I didn't even feel like bending over for a VDI 3 reading so I kicked the sand aside with my shoe just out of curiosity and also because it was the only hit I had gotten. When I kicked the sand aside I saw a sparkle of gold glimmering in the bright sunlight. I went WHOA! I bend down and picked it up. It turned out to be the pictured bracelet which is stamped with a beautiful 14K. I may reconsider just passing over those low VDI numbers from now on.

Very nice! I usually dig the low vdis when I am in parks and looking for gold.

A beauty Rob, congratulations.

Those low numbers can be good. Rob

A lot of these turn out to be small buttons that read in the single or low double digits when they are on the surface.

If you really want to nail the gold, I recommend 22.5 KHz. The V3 is MUCH more sensitive to gold in that frequency!

Congrats on a lesson learned!

Hello Burbank.

Yes, the VDI reading was a solid 3 with no fluctuation. I scanned it 3 times and it was consistent. It only read 3 everytime. I was using my V-3.

What a beautiful find, gratulations from me.

And it shows the V s sensitivity in a good way, there is many detectors out there that would not have seen that.

I once asked how many that try to focus only on the very low conductors with the V at some sites. I found out early on that it is a killer for the type of finds you show here. And it is also a killed at ID them correctly.

With the V you can search a site " outhunted " in a very productive way just digging the numbers below 10 or 15 ( your choice ) and get many targets most people never knew was there. If you start dig the higher numbers You will lose time and area. Assign a high tone to the low conductor area in mention.

Just set your detector up to signal from - 30 or about. You dont have to dig the numbers in that range and they will be few, but you will improve the initial hit on the low + numbers.

On my MXT I have tested my girlfriends gold ring I gave her and it's in the 6-8 range (Foil). So especially the ladies rings seem to come up very low.
