When you dig a 1960 penny out of a fire ant bed. Earlier today I went back to a ballfield where I dug a 1958 silver dime yesterday. Only a few feet from where I found the dime I swung over a big fire ant bed and got a weak high tone signal that sounded just like the silver dime had. I was sure it was another silver dime, but can't cut a plug in an ant bed that big so I dug the target using the hunting knife I use to cut plugs. About 8 inches and hundreds of fire ant stings deep I got the penny.

Yes, I have done that as well. I learned to dig real fast and tap my shovel, I bet it would look funny as heck if someone were looking on. One day last year, I accidentally stopped and was digging while my feet were in an ant bed. I thought I was going to have to come out of my clothes, luckily I was able to get them off without having to do that. I know why they call them "fire" ants because it burns when they sting and bite.
