You Know....The AT Pro Really Is An Exceptional Metal Detector:cheers:

I have been using mine for about 6 months. It has found countless coins, many rings and some interesting relics. Garrett really did their homework on designing this one. It has an outstanding audio design, depth which meets and beats some machines costing much much more, and once learned properly allows you to pick out good targets amongst the trash. And, combine that with a very nice expanded VDI, it allows the user to make some very accurate predictions on the type of target under the coil. Now if this isn't a wonderful machine so far, they water proofed it to be used in the water'. And the same abilities mentioned which makes it a great land machine, also perform well in my fresh water lakes. I now have a metal detector, which I can use for a planned water hunt, yet use the same machine to hunt some relics or coins in sports fields or woods on the way home. No metal detector does it all, but some come closer then others. And the AT Pro is on the top of that list......

I hunted a fresh water lake today. No rings, but if there was one, I would have found it. I did however get a lot of coins. And go figure, this lake gets hunted often, by several hunters.

Hopefully your AT will stay working now that you put it in the water. Seems like quite a few are failing after a dip in the water. It also does not show up right away...one week plus after being in the water mine is headed for the repair shop. I think it really needs to be better waterproofed.

You are so right john! I have sites here in Maine that i hunt alot and have used many brands of detectors that cost many times what the AT-PRO did and i gotta say WOW every time i go out I'm pulling coins from 8 too 10inch range and i have yet too put it in the water lol but one of my biggest reasons for buying the AT-PRO was because it is so versatile and i can hunt small streams ect and not worry about getting it wet or have a rain storm pass by. I really would and do recommend the Garrett AT-PRO too anyone.SAS

The connectors are so different on the ATP ....One thought before heading to the water... Make sure your connectors are tight...Plugged all the way in to the stop. My first connection wasn't upon close observstion I noticed one was not seated as much as the other yet I thought it was tight. After reading the problems on the board I double checked mine. That is when I noticed the difference. Finger tight wasn't enough due to the akwardness of access to tighten them. Just sayin....Look at both connections they should be flush to the stops. Considering the thousands flying out the door, the ones with issues are very few. Garrett really looks after it's customers.........

Garrett didn't hard wire the AT Pro giving the user more coil options without sending it in to the factory. You should always do systems check prior to water hunting to make sure all connectors, battery holders etc are in check.

Yea John your correct about the double check on the plugs and battery door. I use a small leather strap I can wrap and hold tight around the connectors for the final tightening. And I avoid using any other tools except for strap to avoid over tightening the plugs which could cause stress cracks on the plugs bases. I was wondering if you know of any lubes that are waterproof that are used to repel moisture that could be added in conjunction with proper tightening and around the battery seal? I though maybe a slight wrap of Teflon tape plumbers use, not a lot but just a little maybe one wrap or two. That Teflon seems to work when sealing the threads on other items but would that possibly void the warranty? Or maybe a thin silicone washers placed on the base of the plugs as a second seal? They would have to be thin enough for the plug to tighten properly and snug and would act as a second seal to keep the water out, at under ten feet the water pressure should not be a problem. What do you think?

Mine lasted about 5 times in the water before failing. (gave a few warning signals)

Upon return from Garrett if I were to decide to keep it, I wouldn't go any deeper then just below the control box.

A few splashes might be OK, but I wouldn't risk submersing the control box on purpose.

Good Hunting

What are you at now, John? 115,000 coins? 125? 135?

Your success and enthusiasm is (are?) one of Garrett's best sales pitches. And you ain't exactly huntin' in a paradise climate, you put your detectors through a frozen tundra environment so if they hold up they're built well...

You said in a previous post that your detectors now are the AT Pro and the GTI 2500. I meant to ask you this before, but I guess I forgot.

When do you prefer the 2500 and when do you prefer the AT?

I am still learning the AT Pro.....but I really do miss the imaging feature. The AT Pro has great audio + expanded VDI. The GTI has imaging. Both machines have notching capabilities. It's a hard call to say which is better. I hope Garrett (one of these days) comes out with an imaging AT Pro. And that being water proof would just about be a do it all detector.

Yeah mine also lasted nothing on the water and was perfectly closed. Its always the same, who does not have the problem thinks that who haves the problems just dont knows how to close conections or use the detector itself. The at pro works great but it has not been waterprooved well. Thats a fact. at least on the units that with wich we are having the leaks. I hope garrett sends me a unit that can get submerged.
