looking at an old plat, from early-mid1800s. I see where they drew in 7 or 8 houses along a river and lookin at that plat, the houses are right on the river. Do you think they were actually that close to the river or off of the river a bit?? I can find, using the old plat and google earth, the location, pretty darn close anyways, but Im curious how accurate that old plat would be as far as location of structures.
Thanks,
John

John,
Sometimes they can be a little different.
Try to use ant landmarks that are there on both maps, roads, creeks, terrain such as ridges.

Well I did a bit of scouting today, its there, or was. Working on permision now. Talked with one man, told me his great grandad operated a ferry there. Told me there was a hotel, store, brothel and numerous houses. Nothing there now. But the old roads are still there, still being used. Well Im bit excited, but you never know about these things, lol.
Thanks for your help Harold,
Best,
John

Well, its not lookin to good. Two different properties, owned by two different persons. One doesnt want no one on their property, the other property is in limbo because of the owner died, family fighting over it. Son doesnt mind me there but the sister doesnt want anyone on it until the matter is settled.
Something else I didnt think of, while the river seems to have kept the same course over the years, the US Corps of Engineers has it dredged every so many years to keep a 9 foot channel. Through the years all of the sand, silt has been pumped onto the banks of the river. I knew that, but never thought of it, but would still love to give it a shot, you never know.
Best,
John
